The DevEx team is looking for a Senior Engineer to design, develop and enhance tools and services based on AI technologies including Generative AI, Prompt Engineering and model training etc. This will significantly aid to improve PayPal's product discovery. You will develop innovative tools with the help of latest AI technologies and models. This will enhance the overall usage & understanding for merchants and developers alike.

The PayPal Developer Experience Engineering Team is at the forefront of building innovative tools and solutions with the help of Gen AI to increase business and developer productivity and growth. We are re-envisioning our user's interactions with PayPal products to make it a seamless and delightful experience with the help of latest tools, technologies and experiences to make the integration journey for our merchants simple, fast and effective. We are building new capabilities in the DevEx space powered by AI such as AI based code generation for our merchants, AI based searches and AI based chatbot support.



Your way to impact


The PayPal Developer Experience Engineering Team is looking for an experienced software engineer with strong passion for learning and innovation. We are looking for candidates with Gen AI and prompt engineering skills including vector databases, RAG systems and Gen AI models. Someone with solid backend work experience who equally likes researching, exploring and evaluating new tools & techniques by transforming product ideas into quick POCs as well as driving development of actual solutions based on given product and business requirements.



Your day to day

• Design, develop, and maintain highly scalable, performant and robust applications using frameworks like Java Sprint Boot, GoLang etc.
  
  

• Drive innovation by researching and incorporating various Conversational AI, Gen AI & machine learning techniques, tools, and frameworks for building world class software solutions
  
  

• Drive incremental improvements for achieving impactful, optimized search results by researching & implementing search result optimization methodologies - We currently use Algolia for Search
  
  

• Participate in architectural discussions, code reviews, pair programming sessions and lead by example
  
  

• Collaborate with cross-functional teams to refine product requirements and build optimal software solutions
  
  

What do you need to bring

• 8+ years of experience with backend development, preferably using Java
  
  

• Familiarity with server-side JavaScript, node.js, express.js
  
  

• Strong working background and experience with Search implementations like Algolia, Vector Search etc.
  
  

• Experience building and configuring AI assistant, chatbot or similar user facing AI based product solutions
  
  

• Experience working with various proprietary and open-source language models
  
  

• Experience with RAG systems, using embedding models and experience/understanding of abstraction models like langchan, Llama index etc.
