BASIC FUNCTION:



The Assistant Vice President for Civil Rights is a critical role that will provide strategic direction and assist in oversight and implementation of the College's Civil Rights Policy. The position will report directly to the Vice President for Human Relations and Chief Diversity Officer. The Assistant Vice President for Civil Rights will collaborate with various stakeholders to educate the community regarding the College's civil rights policies, supervise the Title IX Coordinator, provide advice and support to accessibility services, and maintain a key role in the Colleges diversity efforts in support of the college's mission and values.



The Assistant Vice President for Civil Rights is also responsible for assisting with the development and implementation of a comprehensive program for compliance with civil rights laws and other related federal and state laws and regulations, including Title IX and the Clery Act. These responsibilities include oversight and management of the College's civil rights-related policies, education and training programs, and investigation and grievance procedures related to discrimination and harassment, including gender-based violence.





DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:




ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:




  • Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive education and compliance strategy aligned with the college's mission and goals, while keeping abreast of industry trends and best practices.




  • Employee Supervision/ Mentoring: Oversee employee performance, including evaluation and professional development planning




  • Conflict Resolution: including alternative dispute resolution, advising, and grievance management and coordination.




  • Compliance and Policies: Develop and maintain civil rights policies and procedures that comply with federal, state, and local laws, as well as institutional regulations and guidelines.




  • Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Champion diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives throughout the college, fostering an inclusive and welcoming environment for all faculty, staff, and students.




  • Training and Development: Collaborate with academic departments and administrative units to identify and address training needs, implementing professional development programs that enhance skills, knowledge, and effectiveness.




  • Community Engagement: Develop and implement programs to promote community engagement, satisfaction, and well-being, recognizing and celebrating achievements and fostering a sense of belonging.




  • Collaboration and Partnerships: Collaborate with various internal and external stakeholders, including senior leadership, trustees, academic departments, student services, and general counsel, to align strategies with institutional goals and enhance overall organizational effectiveness.







QUALIFICATION STANDARDS & SKILLS:




EDUCATION: Juris doctorate from an accredited law school.




EXPERIENCE: A minimum of 5 years of experience with increasing responsibility at an academic institution of higher education is strongly preferred. Experience dealing with investigations, dispute resolution and compliance is preferred.




LICENSES: A valid driver's license or equivalent means of reliable transportation to off-site meetings and events is required. A valid driver's license is required to drive College-owned vehicles and the ability to be insured under the College's authorized driver's policy.




REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:

  • Exceptional oral and written communication, planning, project management, and interpersonal skills.




  • Ability to prepare and present detailed reports, educational programs and assessments.




  • Demonstrated ability to conduct prompt, thorough and objective investigations preferred.




  • Excellent judgment, ability to maintain fair and neutral posture in significant disputes, and ability to work independently.




  • Knowledge and understanding of the residential liberal arts college experience is desired.




  • Ability to exercise a high level of discretion and manage confidential and sensitive matters.




  • Knowledge of MS Office Suite, Outlook, web, internet, and experience with Case Management System.




  • Ability to multi-task and manage time.







OTHER:




REQUIRED HOURS: The regular hours for this full-time position are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. Holiday, weekend and evening work hours may be required. Travel may be required. Regular hours may vary due to needs of the College.

SALARY RANGE:


The anticipated salary range is $175,000 - $190,000 per year. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

BACKGROUND CHECK: The successful candidate will be required to undergo a full consumer background check. Certain positions will require the successful completion of a post-offer physical agility test.
