Prairie State College seeks an experienced part-time hourly instructor to teach a pathophysiology course (evenings preferred). Course instruction includes body systems and changes due to diseases, the cause of the changes, treatment plans for disease processes, and diagnostic procedures. Successful candidates will have the desire to engage a diverse student population.
Reporting Relationship:
Directly reports to Manager, Workforce and Community Partnerships - Workforce Professions
Essential Responsibilities:
Instruct students on the basic concepts of the disease process as related to the body systems.
Discuss the mechanisms of disease and how disease develops.
Explain the causes (etiology) of the most common diseases.
Knowledge of basic diagnostic procedures for the diseases studied (CPT-4 and ICD-9CM coding).
Plan for instructional activities supporting curriculum.
Follow current course outlines, objectives, and evaluation mechanisms.
Maintain a lesson plan of daily instructional activities.
Organize concepts to be taught in a logical and understandable manner covering all objectives outlined in the course syllabus.
Use appropriate Learning Management Systems (LMS), and assessment tools to ensure learning outcomes are being met.
Monitor student attendance and retention and documents (as required).
Plan and update the curriculum for instructional activities including lectures, class discussions, and exams.
Effectively communicate with students to help them achieve their educational goals.
Advise students as it relates to school policies and satisfactory performance and maintain communication with the program coordinator regarding such activity.
Grade assignments, return graded assignments to students, and assign final satisfactory/unsatisfactory grades for all students in a timely manner.
Process course midterm and end grades according to policy.
Monitor all equipment and supply inventory for repair and/or replenishment (as required).
Submit timely, written notice of textbook, supply, instructional and equipment needs to the program coordinator (as required).
Communicate with the program coordinator and/or manager on challenges or noteworthy issues or concerns related to students.
Maintain on-time attendance and schedule adherence.
Maintain a positive attitude and support a commitment to departmental excellence.
Maintain instructional service levels and productivity with efficiency, accuracy, and quality.
Perform other duties as assigned within the scope of the department, consistent with the role of this position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Related job experience of 3 years
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
Experience using technology in the classroom
Preferred Qualifications:
AAPC or AHIMA certified
Associate Degree
Experienced user of education LMS (preferably Desire2Learn)
Experience teaching, especially at the community college level
Experience working with culturally and intellectually diverse groups
Ability to create diverse teaching methods
Anticipated Work Hours and Days:
As per instructor contract

Minimum starting $25/hr.
