Shift: Flexible 1st shift between 7:30 am to 5 pm
Job Summary:
Responds to internal and external requests for personal health information (PHI) and research purposes. To provide assistance to the public and patients needing to access PHI. Ensures the timely and accurate completion of requests for PHI, via walk-ins, mail, phone calls and/or faxed requests. Enters requests into hospital's release of information database and processes the requests. To provide effective and efficient response time to those customers needing access to PHI within 24 hours. Follows current federal and state laws and regulations regarding the release of PHI. Assists internal and external customers in the retrieval of protected health information that has been approved by an Institutional Review Board (IRB). Follows state and federal regulations (HIPAA) along with hospital policies and procedures related to the release of information for research purposes. Reviews the research request via the Medical College of Wisconsin's eBRIDGE system to answer any questions regarding appropriate release of information or patient consent. Works with the Office of Clinical Research with questions related to Health Information Management (HIM) Department requests for PHI related to research. Other duties as assigned.
EXPERIENCE DESCRIPTION:
A minimum of 1 year of experience in medical records is preferred.
High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.
EPIC experience required and must be familiar with Federal and State regulatory requirements with this job.
