As a Chemical / Mechanical Engineer in Lynchburg, VA, you will be part of the proven team in the Installed Base Business Unit. Your work will include:
Support system component design and qualification, process systems maintenance and system component fabrication.
Application processes apply Framatome's patented sludge chemical cleaning or radioactive system decontamination applications. The systems are made-up of heat transfer, ion exchange, pumping, ventilation, chemical handling, corrosion monitoring, reverse osmosis and waste treatment components. Nuclear plant systems that are chemically cleaned and/or decontaminated include steam generators, heat exchangers, reactor coolant systems or portions of the reactor coolant system.
The Chemical Application Engineering team designs the application process, identifies the optimum solvent, and applies the process onsite after setting up and testing the applications equipment. Daily activities will be diverse and largely depend on the status of each project assignment plus your designated role on the contracted assignment.
Working closely with process chemists and control engineers to ensure the application process is set up to perform as designed to achieve maximum results and efficiently run the process.
Scale-up/-down processes including appropriate changes to equipment design and configuration.
Write procurement authorizations, follow procedures to operate components/systems.
Applying new technologies and researching new products from trial through to commercialization and improving products and services.
Working hours are typically 8 AM to 5 PM, with the potential to work overtime to meet project deadlines. Contracted project execution will involve shift work (8 & 12-hour), including day/night shifts and weekends. Work will occur in an office environment, laboratories, and nuclear power plants. Development work may progress from design in the office to test in the lab to implement and perform at a plant site, so travel would be required at certain stages of a project. In some environments, you may need to wear protective clothing or use equipment like safety glasses, steel toe/composite safety shoes, ear protectors, gloves and a hard hat.

Framatome's Installed Base (IB) Business Unit is responsible for all types of services and maintenance activities for commercial nuclear operating plants. The IB NDE Solutions Business Group (IBN-A) manages specialty NDE inspections, steam generator services, chemistry & chemical application services, and Balance of Plant (BOP) repair services and sales activity for primarily the US nuclear market.

Your Total Rewards Package
The range of base salary for the position is between $73,000 - $96,000, and may also include annual incentives, performance bonuses and benefits. Please note that the base salary range is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies and work location.
