Functions as a Sterile Processing technician and provides general oversight of Sterile Processing department team members for departmental processes related to the following: Receives, decontaminates and processes instrumentation and equipment used in the hospital and various outside agencies, as well as the documentation of those processes. Supports System and Nursing Strategic Plans, Relationship-Based Care, and Shared Leadership.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE JOB:
Assists manager and coordinator in determining work priorities for the shift and assures that all tasks are accomplished in a timely manner by directing efficient workflow for team.
Monitors staff adherence to protocols and daily practice as part of ongoing quality assurance; corrects, provides and documents appropriate training as needed. Refers issues out of scope to coordinator and manager.
Assists with orientation and training of new sterile processing personnel and other personnel on assigned shift as directed.
Is the point of contact for the Operating Room in the absence of the Sterile Processing manager or coordinator.
Decontamination of equipment and carts (crash or isolation) returned from the Nursing units.
Retrieving soiled instruments from the Nursing units.
Decontamination of instrumentation received from areas within the hospital and outside agencies.
Sealing decontamination boxes and making new ones as needed (DGH only).
Ordering of supplies needed to fulfill job responsibilities.
Assemble soft goods for sterilization.
Stock crash cart after use and return to pharmacy.
Stock isolation carts.
Run Bowie Dick and biological tests, and record appropriately.
Count, wrap and process instrumentation for sterilization.
Document accurately processing information of loads.
Restock carts as needed to include isolation, crash, specialty, etc.
Provide and maintain a clean work environment on a daily basis.
Functions cooperatively as a team member. Responds as directed by the Charge Nurse to the changing needs of patients and the unit.

Qualifications
High school diploma and a minimum of 2 years' experience as a Sterile Processing technician is required.
Certification in Sterile Processing from a recognized association including but not limited to IAHCSMM or CBSPD is required.
