Job Description:

The Nebraska Department of Education is looking for a Facilities Specialist to provide oversight of day-to-day building operations for our office at 500 S 84th St! This includes arranging for services to complete projects, collaborating with vendors, overseeing building security, and maintaining our continuity of operations plan.

Office Location & Schedule: This position is assigned to our office located at 84th & O St, Lincoln, NE.
Pay Rate:
$33.118/hour
This rate is based upon available budget funds; any offer will be made at this rate.

Essential Functions
Serves as tenant representative to liaison between facility staff, building owner, and the Nebraska Department of Education.
Arranges for services, solicits and reviews bids, awards service contracts and construction projects. Oversees and coordinates work of outside contractors.
Collaborates with vendors to maintain and renovate office space. Documents usage and allocates space and workspaces such as meeting rooms, furniture, equipment, and supplies.
Oversees building security; administers building access policies and procedures, and creates and programs employee identification cards.
Develops, maintains, and implements the continuity of operations plan. Facilitates employee training related to the plan, and coordinates annual plan review.
Implements and promotes health and safety standards. Leads Nebraska Department of Education safety committee, and develops and administers emergency management plans and procedures (e.g., fire and tornado drills, evacuation procedures, first aid).
Manages equipment (e.g., leased copiers, vehicles) and assets, including routine repair and usage logs.
Coordinates internal and external signage.
Provides leadership in the hiring, supervision, and potential discipline of staff. Conducts performance management activities including establishing annual goals related to the strategic plan, holding check-in meetings to discuss goal progress, and completing performance appraisals. Facilitates a continuous learning environment by promoting professional development to ensure all employees have the opportunity and skills to be efficient and effective in meeting the goals of the agency. Delegates work and projects appropriately among staff.

Working Conditions and Travel:
This position requires approximately 95% of work time spent in an office environment; the remaining 5% is spent traveling or working in alternative sites such as other state facilities. There is also approximately five days of overnight travel per year.
Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree in a related field and four years of experience related to the essential functions of the position. Any equivalent education and/or work experience may be substituted in order to meet the minimum qualifications of the position.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience working within established property management companies or managing a large facility, including working with vendors and contracts, and maintaining compliance with health and safety standards.
