Veterinary Nurse - Anesthesia (PT)
Position SummaryProvides patient care for ill and injured animals in the Small Animal Anesthesia Department of the Veterinary Medical Center. This position works in the Anesthesia Support Center which is a branch of the anesthesia department to provide the hospital and patients with supportive care. This position will be utilized for their technical abilities including but not limited to performing anesthesia, sedation, patient care, radiographs, venipuncture, IVC placement, and more. MSUs Veterinary Medical Center provides extraordinary benefits to their employees, as well as opportunities to learn and grow within. Other working responsibilities include instructing and demonstrating techniques to students and assisting clinicians, while also maintaining supplies, equipment, and cleanliness of the anesthesia support center hospital areas. Minimum RequirementsKnowledge normally acquired in the first two or three years in college, technical or vocational school in Veterinary Technology. Six months to one year of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in extensive patient care, surgery, anesthesia, drug-dosing, and sterilization; experience in the use of spreadsheet and word processing software; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Licensed as a Veterinary Technician with the State of Michigan or attainment of such certification within one year from date of employment.
Desired QualificationsExperience as a veterinary technician in an educational setting.
Experience in emergency/critical care and sterile techniques.
Experience in Electronic Medical Records software.

Summary of Physical DemandsThe veterinary technician will be lifting animal patients onto cages and medical equipment; carrying animals between cages and exam tables and gurneys; pushing carts containing animals and equipment to other units; climbing stairs carrying lab samples; restraining animals; preparing for medical procedures and treatments.
