Lyman Briggs College Budget Officer
Position SummaryReporting to the dean of the college, the Budget Officer plans, directs, and manages the budget of the college, overseeing the fiscal and administrative activities of general funds, contracts and grant accounts, and gift accounts for Lyman Briggs College (LBC).
LBC is a residential college, providing a living-learning community for its students, faculty, advisors, and staff who work, learn, and/or live in Holmes Hall. The college has approximately 2000 students in over 35 different majors and includes approximately 15 professional staff members and 50 faculty members representing a wide range of disciplines, including the sciences and maths, social sciences, and humanities. As the college subject matter expert and a member of the college leadership team, the LBC Budget Officer provides financial and administrative perspectives and participates in the development of unit goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. LBC is a non-departmental college; therefore, the Budget Officer collaborates with the dean on high level financial strategy while also being responsible for the day-to-day fiscal functions of the college.
The LBC Budget Officer works closely with the college Research Administrator and the Associate Dean of Research and Faculty Affairs to support research functions of the college. They also work in close collaboration with the college Human Resources Administrator in managing the administrative business of the unit. Mutual cross-training between budget and human resources positions is expected for building backup support capacity. Finally, the Budget Officer works closely with the college Engagement Team to support advancement functions of the college.
Duties and Responsibilities
Plans, directs, and manages the budget processes of the college and other planning analytics, including exercising responsibility for the management authorization of expenditures of the college.
Serves as lead finance personnel to identify, develop, and implement finance team goals, objectives, policies, and procedures. Serves as administrative lead for internal and external financial questions. Researches, prepares, and verifies accuracy of financial reports to provide information to dean, executive managers, faculty, staff, Office of the Provost, and Controller's Office.
Serves as a member of the leadership team and participates in the development of goals, objectives, policies, and procedures for the college. Advises leadership team members on the impact of objectives on their budgets and how to strategically use funding to advance college goals.
Works with the college Human Resources Administrator in managing the administrative business of the unit and to provide HR backup support.
Provides oversight of the contract and grant processes (administered by the college Research Administrator), including pre- and post-award administration.
Provides oversight of gift accounts (administered by the college Engagement Team), including scholarship and endowment administration.
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Business Administration, Accounting, Management or field related to employing unit; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in financial or accounting practices, developing, implementing, and assessing research projects, funding and grant practices, and/or experience in a field related to the area of employment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Experience generating and distributing finance reports; familiarity with Enterprise-level finance systems such as: PowerBI, Cognos Query Studio, Anaplan.
