Established company is seeking a Senior Specialist Underwriter who is experienced in Forestry Underwriting on a direct hire basis! Pay range: $110-140k.
Responsibilities:
Determines whether to accept, decline, or modify applications or requests for selling an insurance policy. Once a policy is sold, assesses and adjusts for exposure changes that arise during the policy term, while understanding the company's target programs and coverage options.
Assesses, quotes, and negotiates pricing for applications from both new and renewing customers, as well as requests for policy modifications, necessitating knowledge of statutory requirements, ISO standards, company policies, NCCI coverage forms, endorsements, and commercial line reference manuals, including Best's Underwriting Guide.
Oversees a group of agencies, which includes seeking out new agencies, managing agency appointments, fostering growth and development, maximizing agency profit-sharing opportunities, and overseeing credit management. Evaluates agency characteristics such as personnel, line diversification, loss ratios, business volume, and profit potential to determine which agencies to appoint or terminate.
Travels as needed for sales and marketing activities, territory maintenance, meetings, or other responsibilities required for the position.
Attracts new business and retains existing customers by delivering effective presentations to agency and customer audiences.
Develops and manages business within a designated territory, focusing on achieving profitable underwriting outcomes, sales growth, and customer service.
Creates, plans, and meets sales budgets aimed at supporting business strategies for assigned accounts and territory, including setting and reaching premium and loss ratio objectives, conducting agency and prospecting visits, and business forecasting.
Maintains, promotes, and increases profitable sales from current and potential customer accounts using a structured referral process, which includes regular agency visits, building agency relationships, and conducting agency reviews.
Makes decisions within established authority levels and company guidelines, seeking exceptions when necessary and supported by relevant data.
Aids in the workflow and management of BITCO's business, including account reviews and approvals.
Recognizes and addresses changes in customer operations or financial conditions appropriately.
Fosters and maintains profitable business relationships with current and prospective customer accounts through effective marketing, sales, and service initiatives.
Coordinates, promotes, and markets claims, risk control, and premium audit service plans to both current and prospective clients.
Mentors and trains less experienced underwriters, may supervise some non-technical tasks, and conducts staff meetings as directed by the manager.
Keeps up-to-date with corporate, regulatory, and competitive developments in relevant lines of business.
Consistently demonstrates above-average proficiency in identifying key underwriting issues and taking appropriate actions based on gathered information.
Underwrites or assists in underwriting large or unique risks that require advanced technical knowledge and industry expertise, and may review underwriting files.
Participates in complex research, analysis, or development projects requiring advanced skills as assigned directly by home office underwriting.
Acts as a knowledge resource within the company.
Completes special projects as directed by the Program Manager, which may include attending association meetings, developing endorsements and questionnaires, and collecting and analyzing underwriting data to enhance the specialty BITCO program.
