General Summary



Provides pharmaceutical care to patients and monitors prescribed medications in accordance to generally accepted pharmacy practices, policies, State and Federal regulations.



Principal Responsibilities and Tasks



The following statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by people assigned to this classification. They are not to be construed as an exhaustive list of all job duties performed by personnel so classified.

  • Provides pharmaceutical care to patients including the promotion of optimal drug therapy and safe use of medications. Assesses patient-specific data to evaluate medication needs, verifies medication orders, oversees the preparation, dispensing, distribution and monitoring of all medications.

  • Supervises pharmacy technicians and other support staff with the daily operations of the pharmacy. Ensures compliance with the standards and regulations of USP 797 and USP 800.

  • Collaborates and consults with and provides education to medical staff, nurses, allied health professionals, patients and caregivers. Acts as a preceptor for students as directed.

  • Manages care, quality, and costs by engaging in the systematic and continuous process of evaluating and improving the utilization of medications in a patient population in order to enhance the quality, safety, efficiency and cost-effectiveness of the medication use process. Oversees and directs the work of other pharmacy staff and ensures service standards are met.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications


  • Bachelor of Science in Pharmaceutical Science is required. Doctor of Pharmacy is preferred.

  • 1 year of experience preferred.

  • Maryland Pharmacist License
