Church Accountant/Bookkeeper

Part-time Position: 20 hours per week

Hourly Rate: $30 per hour

Position Description

Church Accountant/Bookkeeper shall maintain complete and accurate records of all church financial, employment and business transactions. Assure that all financial, employment and business records and all transaction data are correctly, accurately and timely documented and maintained.

Position Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in the creation and management of the church's annual budget, providing financial analysis and recommendations to help the church achieve its financial goals
  • Coordinate and prepare for annual financial audits, working with external auditors to ensure compliance and accuracy in financial reporting
  • Process payroll for church staff, ensuring accurate and timely payments and deductions
  • Assist in long-term financial planning and forecasting, helping the church make informed decisions to support its mission and ministry
  • Effectively communicate financial information to church leadership, staff, and members, helping to promote transparency and accountability in financial matters
  • Enter all invoices submitted for payment
  • Balance and reconcile checking account and investment accounts
  • Maintain complete and accurate records of all church financial, employment and business transactions. Assure that all financial, employment and business records and all transaction data are correctly, accurately and timely documented and maintained.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting or a related field preferred
  • CPA certification preferred

Experience/Skills

  • Practical experience in fund-based accounting and account reconciliation, preferably in a church or church-related organization
  • Strong understanding of financial principles and practices
  • Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse stakeholders
  • Commitment to the mission and values of the church
