SUMMARY



The Medical Records Technician is responsible for managing and maintaining patient medical records in a healthcare environment. Ensures accuracy, completeness, and confidentiality of medical records, while adhering to legal and regulatory compliance. Assists in the retrieval and analysis of patient information to support healthcare professionals.


Must be able to obtain and maintain the required customer clearance for access to systems, facilities, equipment and property.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS




KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES



Essential Duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.


Organizes and maintains patient medical records in both electronic and paper formats, ensuring proper documentation and record keeping. Reviews and verifies the accuracy and completeness of patient information, including demographics, medical history, test results, and treatment plans.


Ensures compliance with legal and regulatory requirements, such as HIPAA regulations, regarding patient privacy and confidentiality. Assists in the coding and indexing of medical records to facilitate accurate billing and insurance claims processing.


Retrieves and delivers medical records to healthcare professionals upon request, ensuring timely access to patient information. Collaborates with healthcare professionals to ensure accurate and up-to-date documentation of patient care and treatment plans.


Analyzes medical records for quality assurance purposes, identifying any discrepancies or errors and taking appropriate corrective actions. Maintains electronic health record (EHR) systems, ensuring data integrity, system security, and proper backup procedures.


Assists in the implementation and optimization of EHR systems, including training staff on proper usage and troubleshooting any technical issues.



EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE



High school diploma or general education degree (GED) and a minimum of one to three (1-3) years relevant experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education/experience.

Work is primarily performed in an office environment. Regularly required to sit. Occasionally required to stand, walk and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. Must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Exposed to general office noise with computers printers and light traffic.
