To provide engineering support services as required to successfully meet project demands within the engine and vehicle test facilities.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Participate in department activities to test and develop engines and to help improve testing efficiency.
Instruct and lead technician staff through the processes of configuration and calibration of test cells for performance and emissions development testing.
Facilitate maintenance and calibration of various test cell data acquisition and measurement equipment.
Support as required; test cell performance and troubleshooting, minimizing downtime with regard to instrumentation system needs. Able to recommend and install instruments and systems best suited for specific testing requirements.
Maintain equipment calibration database (GageTrak) ensuring all equipment calibration records are up to date.
Assist in design and build of various cabling and vehicle harness assemblies to support projects as needed.
Develop/give presentations to effectively communicate with internal groups.
Maintain a working knowledge of new technologies that may improve operations and develop recommendations accordingly.
Resolve problems using solutions that involve new techniques, technologies, or concepts.
Maintain awareness of the Company Quality System.
Work with development engineers and management to continually develop capabilities that match industry needs.
Observe all safety rules and regulations. Must act safely and be responsible for the safety of others around work area.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree preferably in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering/Technology or equivalent related experience
Experience with setup and integration of AVL test cell data acquisition and measurement equipment
Experience with gasoline, alt fuels, and diesel engine test cell setups
Experience with automated test scripting
Ability to specify and implement general test equipment e.g. sizing of heat exchangers, pumps, flow meters, valves, transducers etc.
Test cell controls knowledge (PID setup and tuning for dynamometer, heat exchangers, etc.)
Familiarity with standardized test cycles and 1065 regulations
Ability to fabrication and machine to engineering specifications and prints
Ability to tear down, instrument, and rebuild gasoline and diesel engines with minimal to no assistance
Ability to work well under pressure and to strict time constraints, as part of a team or individually
Self-motivated with the drive to complete tasks in a timely manner with appropriate attention to detail
