The Pfizer AI and Data (AIDA) R&D team creates comprehensive AI and data solutions that address some of the most critical business needs of Pfizer's research and development teams. Through use of these AI and data solutions this team accelerates Pfizer's R&D strategies.

 

The Director, AIDA R&D Program Planning and Execution will implement portfolio management, finance management and communications best practices to optimize the team's resources, ensure delivery excellence across the R&D AIDA portfolio and create connection across the team.

 

This role will serve as the primary liaison to the AIDA portfolio team ensuring alignment and transparency across AIDA's portfolio. Likewise, the role will serve as an internal central point of contact, providing transparency to portfolio health.

 

A successful candidate will have the leadership, vision, and interpersonal skills required to create a collaborative framework through courageous and effective influence among direct and indirect team members.

 

In parallel, this role will define Key Operational metrics, Customer Satisfaction and standardized reporting for leadership to be able to make strategic decisions.

 

Responsibilities also include organizational and change management oversight as they relate to our portfolio of projects, governance and reporting.

 

This role will report to the Senior Director AI & Data Product Delivery & Operations.

 

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  • Implement and lead standardized Portfolio and Project Management processes and platforms to manage complex demand across the AIDA Research and Development teams
  • Scope includes pipeline management, project lifecycle management through to project close-out and operational support
  • Serve as the primary contact for all processes related to portfolio, as defined by central portfolio team, including understanding of all tools and anticipating and proactively responding to change
  • Leverage business acumen, professional relationships, and leadership experience to influence decisions ensuring portfolio alignment to and accountability for Pfizer purpose, values, operating principles, and results
  • Work closely with the leadership to understand all capital commitments as they relate to the entire project portfolio
  • Lead strategic initiatives and special projects in partnership with the leadership team
  • Demonstrate strong leadership in an increasingly complex, innovative, and fast-moving environment
  • Be a thought leader in continuous process improvement
  • Motivate indirect reports through mentorship and coaching on topics such as process improvement, appropriate risk taking, and presentation skills
  • Develop plans for managing diverse talent in and out of immediate span of control and ensure that leadership bench strength is taken into consideration.

 

Additional responsibilities specific to each discipline as highlighted below

 

Portfolio Management:

 

  • Design and implement effective agile portfolio management across AIDA R&D portfolio ensuring resources are optimized for, and responsive to, changing business needs
  • Ensure transparency to portfolio health including delivery health and financial health
  • Ensure resource allocation is driven by relative prioritization of work across the portfolio
  • Ensure appropriate representation in governance forum, grooming of inbound requests, and preparation for estimation and delivery
  • Partner with delivery teams to streamline project intake, prioritization, governance and reporting processes
  • Collaborate with Central Portfolio Team to represent our organization in all key deliverables
  • Lead and develop creation of strategic roadmaps to define the proper path to standardization of the space

 

Capacity Management:

 

  • Manage resourcing and capacity across teams
  • Ensure resources are aligned to top priority projects, understand asset/project resource projection, and identify opportunities for improvement in cost control and efficiency
  • Develop insights to present to Senior Leadership in order to make impactful decisions
  • Centralize responsibility for the Managed Community of contracted Project Managers and Business Analysts, ensuring the most cost-effective and optimized staffing model for all of AIDA R&D

 

Finance Management:

 

  • Define, implement, and manage annual process in support of ongoing cost transfers, ensuring that all new costs are accurately dispositioned and funded
  • Standardize solution metrics to measure overall cost to Pfizer, and cost to customer, to ensure accurate pricing
  • Ensure best practices are implemented and followed to streamline the process at project close out

 

Operational Reporting:

 

  • Interpret divisional strategy and define key performance metrics that align to the strategic goals of the organization
  • Consolidate and oversee all projects and commitments including status, financials, interdependencies, issues and risks, including preparation of portfolio dashboards, metrics and reports and investment recommendations, both internally and in partnership with Senior Director AI & Data Product Delivery & Operations
  • Establish Methods to determine Customer Satisfaction and periodic reviews to evaluate the overall benefit of our AI and data solutions, and identify and eliminate adoption barriers

 

Communications:

 

  • Responsible for designing and implementing a comprehensive communication strategy ensuring that all team members have access to necessary information and fostering a sense of connection among the team. This includes creating channels for open dialogue, disseminating relevant information effectively, and promoting a culture of inclusivity and transparency.
  • Drives effective communication across all levels, ensuring that every team member is informed, engaged, and feels valued. This includes clearly conveying strategic goals, team objectives and connection to individual roles and responsibilities.
  • Responsible to ensure effective portfolio representation to external stakeholders. This involves communicating the team's progress, challenges, and achievements in a manner that strengthens relationships.

 

Project and Program Management:

 

  • Leads and directs one or more project teams engaged in the design, implementation and modification of IT projects that span across functional organizations.
  • Prepares project execution plan and identifies appropriate technical and business resources needed for the team. Ensures projects are completed on schedule, within budget and meets technical requirements of the assignment.
  • Keeps current on advances in the field of IT.
  • Provides analytical guidance to project team.

 

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Finance, Information Management, Computer Science, Engineering or Business
  • Minimum of 10+ years of demonstrated progressive experience as an IT leader, preferably in pharmaceutical industry
  • Demonstrated understanding and enterprise-scale project and portfolio management skills (Budgeting, Finance, and Portfolio concepts and processes)
  • Broad range of experience demonstrating strong leadership skills; decisive, analytical, persuasive, equitable, influence, strategic
  • Experience successfully navigating and leading and managing multiple stakeholder interests within large matrixed organization with geographically distributed resources
  • Ability to collaborate and negotiate effectively with individuals/groups at multiple levels in the organization & able to influence resources outside of immediate span of control
  • Experience coaching and mentoring other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact
  • Strong business acumen and professionalism with the ability to interact effectively with all levels of management and actively participate on senior leadership teams
  • Must have the ability to prioritize issues and drive progress in ambiguous situations
  • Understanding of Operating Model and Governance Processes
  • Exceptional interpersonal and written/visual communication skills with the ability to establish relationships, influence outcomes, and deliver effective presentations to a variety of audiences, express concepts in layperson's terms appropriate for each audience
  • Excellent skills in analysis, critical thinking and planning, oral and written communication, consensus building, facilitation, negotiation and the ability to readily learn a new business area
  • Awareness of internal and external digital and technology finance and process trends
  • Proficiency in the following tools: Microsoft Office Suite, Access, Excel, PowerPoint, SharePoint
  • Candidate demonstrates a breadth of diverse leadership experiences and capabilities including: the ability to influence and collaborate with peers, develop and coach others, oversee and guide the work of other colleagues to achieve meaningful outcomes and create business impact.

The annual base salary for this position ranges from $149,200.00 to $248,600.00. In addition, this position is eligible for participation in Pfizer's Global Performance Plan with a bonus target of 20.0% of the base salary and eligibility to participate in our share based long term incentive program.
