Supplier Development Engineer
Mossville-IL, Pontiac-IL or Lafayette-IN
What you will do::
Serve as the trusted advisor for assigned supply base
Assess potential suppliers via on-site Quality Audits process control implementation and effectiveness. Validate process capability
Drive implementation of Lean, BIQ, and APQP
Continuously review production readiness through rigorous review of Supplier APQP elements
Collaborate with suppliers to assure proper process control standards are in place and continuously monitor key manufacturing processes for improvement opportunities
Provide technical support during start-up activities and provide ongoing strategic support
Will be responsible for the supplier's processes from design concept to the end of the product life
Review APQP documentation and participate APQP Process Control Documents for suppliers' manufacturing processes
Develop and maintain thorough knowledge of technology developments and trends for guidance of commodity teams in advancements of design, quality, and manufacturing
Support and participate in 6 Sigma initiatives with facilities, category teams, and suppliers
Responsible for the review, approval, and validation of 8D permanent corrective action plans
Participate in the development of Supplier quality metrics
Coordinate with engineering personnel on matters regarding Concurrent Product and Process Development (CPPD), New Product Introduction (NPI), Continuous Process Improvement (CPI) teams; prove design to production, engineering changes, deviations, supplier designs, specification approvals, meeting cost reduction goals, and participates in the Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) process with suppliers manufacturing processes
Education:
Bachelor's degree related to Quality, Engineering/Technology, or similar with 3 or more years of relevant experience OR an Associate's degree in Quality, Engineering/Technology, or similar with 5 or more years or relevant experience OR 7+ years of relevant professional experience

Manufacturing Standards, Procedures and Policies: Extensive Knowledge of organizational standards, procedures and policies in manufacturing activities; ability to plan, guide, and monitor manufacturing processes for compliance.
Supplier Management - MFG: Extensive Knowledge of processes and methods to effectively manage business relationships and transactions with suppliers of raw materials or product components; ability to apply related knowledge, experience and skills into real practice.
Supplier Evaluations and Certification: Extensive Knowledge of supplier evaluations and certification; ability to identify the methods, tools and documentation for evaluating, selecting and certifying vendors, suppliers and partners.
Top Candidates May Have:
Master's degree in Engineering/Technology, or similar
American Supply Quality (ASQ) quality certification
Experience with Fuel Systems components and/or assemblies
Experience with machining, grinding, lapping, EDM, etc. and/or assembly
APQP knowledge
Engineering or manufacturing background and familiarity with machining, grinding, lapping, EDM, etc. and/or assembly processes used to produce components and assemblies
Knowledge of shop operations and maintenance procedures
Good human relations/communication skills as well as leadership skills to develop a cooperative working relationship with others both inside and outside of Caterpillar
Ability to use and demonstrate statistical and problem-solving tools
