Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 333-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus including at a network of Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary




The mission of Fathers and Families Center (FFC) is "To build a noble legacy of fatherhood - assisting fathers in achieving self-sufficiency and in strengthening families to improve the life chances of children." We accomplish this by working with fathers and their families to help them to be better partners, providers and parents.


Reporting to the Manager, Training Center Development the Construction Instructor is responsible for teaching hands-on construction and union readiness skills to prepare clients for careers in the building trades utilizing the National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER) curriculum and certification program. The goal of the program is to take men who have little to no construction background to apprenticeship and/or workplace readiness in three weeks. New classes start each month, Monday through Friday.




Essential Functions and Responsibilities






  • Coordinate and teach 12 cohorts per year (with approximately 20-25 students per cohort) hands-on construction and union readiness skills for the building trades, ensuring NCCER Curriculum for certification requirements is met or exceeded.

  • Ensure OSHA 10 curriculm for certification requirements is met or exceeded.

  • Administers written and practical exams; write performance reports to evaluate individual trainees' performance as required by certifying agencies.

  • Collaborates with Manager, Training Center Development, to develop class and testing schedules.

  • Advises students in career and program matters.

  • Provides timely, quality access to students through electronic communication, or other appropriate methods.

  • Assists students with advising, class, and job placement.

  • Assists with maintaining the learning workshop and Construction Training Center; maintaining all tools and equipment and ensuring tool and equipment safety and security.

  • Responsible for proper and secure storage of equipment, including computers.






Job Requirements






  • Associate degree and three years of experience in construction industry including blueprint reading or ten years of experience, preferably union, in construction industry including blueprint reading.

  • Instructor must currently have or be able to obtain within three months any instructor certifications as required (i.e. NCCER, OSHA 10).

  • 2-5 years of adult education or instructional experience in construction preferred.

  • Valid Indiana driver's license

  • Must have own transportation.






Knowledge, Skills & Abilities






  • Hands on construction building experience and a working knowledge and expertise of basic tools.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and aptitude to work with people at many different levels.

  • Ability to perform required computerized tasks to include any combination of word processing, e-mail, internet, and web-based applications.

  • Excellent and effective oral and written communication skills.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of work-related information and materials.

  • Passion for working one-on-one with adults who require support to be successful in their careers.

  • Is highly skilled at classroom/workshop management.
