The University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign, Extra Help Services office is seeking individuals to join our Office team. Extra Help Services provides campus departments with skilled employees at various levels in the office professional, accounting, information technology (IT), and graphic design areas to meet various temporary needs in units across campus. Our goal at Extra Help Services is to provide departments with the best employees to meet their departmental needs.
General Job Description:
An Office Assistant performs work such as answering phones, taking messages, filing, sorting and distributing mail, greeting clients, performing routine data entry, proofreading documents, providing assistance to departments by performing the previously mentioned tasks, as well as higher-level duties. This employee may respond to emails, independently craft correspondence and reports, transcribe narrative in final format, screen calls and visitors, personally handle routine problems, schedule appointments using electronic software program, set up travel arrangements, assist with special event planning, assist with project planning, review or distribute incoming mail, and respond to routine inquires.
Actual job duties vary by position and will be discussed with the candidate selected to fill the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Must be a minimum of 18 years old to apply. While we receive some entry-level positions, many require some office experience. Individuals must have a good work ethic, be able to follow and give clear instructions, and be friendly and able to work well with others.
Rate of Pay:
The rate of pay for Temporary/Extra Help - Office Assistant positions start at $16.891 per hour and increases based on level of work. The rate of pay is determined by the job description submitted by the department.
Work Schedule:
We offer short or long-term assignments up to 900 hours, which is about 6-months of full-time work. Employees can work either full or partial days and full or partial weeks.
Extra Help Positions:
Extra Help employees are appointed to fulfill casual or emergent needs within units. The amount of time for which services are needed is not usually predictable and payment for work performed is on an hourly basis and based on actual hours worked. Extra Help employees do not receive holiday pay. As these roles are temporary/as needed, benefits are limited and based on extra help hours worked at the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign.
Extra Help employees are required by State Universities Civil Service System rules to take a 30-calendar-day break after working 900 hours. At the end of the 30 days, you may begin another 900-hour employment cycle in a new position if available. Working Extra Help will in no way affect any other employment opportunities with the University of Illinois, including your position on and Civil Service register.
