Who are we looking for?
Our Northern CA offices have an excellent opportunity for a Project Engineer- Highways/Roads. This is a unique opportunity for a rising individual to join a large, well-established organization with a culture that promotes teamwork, integrity, and respect. You will work closely with our highly skilled multi-disciplinary teams throughout the organization and our clients to efficiently deliver projects and provide high value consultancy services.
This position can work from any of our California offices.
Working with our Engineering Design Organization, this position offers a unique opportunity to work on diverse projects, collaborate with talented professionals, and make a significant impact within our organization and the communities we serve.
Key Responsibilities Include:
Technical Guidance and Project Oversight: Providing expertise and guidance on various engineering projects, with a focus on transportation systems, such as highways, roadways, trails, and more.
Design Delivery: Leading and supporting the production of complex engineering designs, drawings, details, and specifications.
Project Scope and Schedule Management: Assisting project managers in developing and managing project scopes, schedules, budgets, and quality plans. Your expertise will contribute to effective project planning and execution.
Leadership: Leading and supporting cohesive projects teams, including subconsultants, to achieve project objectives, promoting collaboration, and creating a positive work environment.
Coaching and Mentoring: Playing a crucial role in coaching and mentoring junior staff, helping them develop their skills and knowledge.
Community and Professional Engagement: Actively engaging in community and professional organizations, representing our company and staying up-to-date with industry trends.
Client Relationship Management: Supporting project managers and actively participating in client relationship management, attending client meetings as needed.
Business Development: Supporting project managers with business development on behalf of GHD, position for new work and secure projects.
Ensuring timely production of deliverables and carrying out quality checks and procedures.
What you will bring to the team
Strong foundation and proficiency across multiple software design platforms - experience with both AutoCAD Civil 3D required, and MicroStation desired. Supplemental transportation /traffic software experience a plus.
Experience, familiarity with and knowledge of overall project delivery processes.
Experience with local agency, state and federally funded transportation projects administered by Caltrans.
Ability to support and grow relationships/business in transportation and other sectors within the US West Region.
Capability to provide mentorship to staff within a collaborative, multi-disciplinary team environment and knowledge with staff and peers.
Ability to support project/client proposals and participate in interviews as needed.
Proven professional judgement and commercial acumen, including identifying, assessing, evaluating and solving problems.
Robust written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to concisely convey complex issues.
Strong teammate, with the ability to work independently when required, collaborative in open sharing of information and knowledge with team.
Demonstrated ability to direct and delegate work assignments to others, ensuring efficient project execution and team productivity.
A self-starter with the ability to multi-task and prioritize deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
Registered Civil Engineer in the State of California.
8+years of experience with solid technical knowledge and skills across the transportation & municipal engineering, including a strong background in planning & design; construction experience a plus.

Salary Range: $132,000-$198,000 based on experience
