Sr. Research Associate 1
The University of Miami/UHealth department of Neurology has an exciting opportunity for a Full Time Sr. Research Associate 1 to work at the UHealth Medical Campus.
Core Summary
The Senior Research Associate 1, SOM provides laboratory-based support for the University's research activities by tackling the more specialized and complex projects and experiments. Additionally, the incumbent leverages his/her expertise in training and mentoring department staff, students, and less experienced research associates.
Core Responsibilities
Collects, analyzes, and presents research data.
Monitors and maintains relevant research databases to ensure accurate data entries.
Understands and interprets research protocols and procedures.
Participates in the publication of significant results to include authorship of scientific monographs.
Advances expertise through continued education, training, and research. Maintains current knowledge of relevant developments in the field.
Department Specific Functions
Safely transfer and weigh persons with SCI on a calibrated scale.
Draw venous bloods by needle stick and placement of an indwelling venous catheter.
Design exercise conditioning programs for persons with SCI.
Assist persons with SCI in circuit resistance, resistance, and endurance conditioning exercise.
Enter source data into REDcap, eVelos, and Excel spreadsheets.
Secure data in hard copy and virtual databases.
Design and lead virtual exercise sessions and lifestyle programming for persons with SCI.
Affix electrophysiological monitoring devices, including ECG, and electrophysiological treatment devices at standardized anatomical sites.
Administer auricular Vagus nerve stimulation.
Affix hemodynamic monitoring devices at standardized anatomical sites.
Perform metabolic monitoring and graded exercise testing using the open-circuit method with stationary and ambulatory spirometers, and ECG monitoring.
Independently perform oral glucose challenge and controlled feeding studies.
Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, Power Point, and Outlook.

Core Qualifications
Master's Degree in relevant field required
No experience required.
Preferred experience:
Academic or professional experience in metabolic measurement using open-circuit spirometry.
Academic or professional experience in measurement of pulmonary flow-volume loops.
Academic or professional experience in core principles of exercise prescription.
Leadership in design and leading live and virtual exercise sessions and lifestyle programming.
Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:
Understand cardiopulmonary and musculoskeletal responses to conditioning exercise.
Nutritional analysis methods using data logs and dietary databases.
Skill in collecting, organizing, and analyzing datasets.
Proficiency in REDcap, eVelos, and Excel databases.
Ability to recognize, analyze, and solve a variety of problems.
Ability to exercise sound judgment in making critical decisions.
Sensitivity to a population with paralysis.
Eligible for CPR certification.
Certification in phlebotomy, or willingness to undergo phlebotomy training.
