The Museum Shop at James Monroe's Highland is the point of entry for visitors to the site. The Museum Shop is responsible for reception of visitors, sale of tickets, wayfinding assistance (for on-site and off-site questions), and sale of Museum Shop merchandise.
The Cashier will interact with James Monroe's Highland visitors in ticket sales, wayfinding assistance, and sale of Museum Shop Merchandise. The Cashier is additionally responsible for administering our Augmented Reality Tour to the public.
The Cashier also assists the Museum Shop Manager in daily operations of stocking and display of merchandise and light cleaning of display areas in the Museum Shop. Additional support responsibilities may be required.
* This position is non-exempt and eligible to receive over-time for hours worked beyond 40 in a pay week. Overtime hours to be worked require pre-approval by supervisor.
* All hourly employees are subject to the limitations of the Virginia Manpower Control Program and total hours worked may not exceed, on average, 28 hour per week, over the course of a twelve-month period beginning May 1 each year.
* Some nights and weekend work is required.

* High School Diploma or equivalent.
* Knowledge of retail operations including cash and credit card transactions.
* Demonstrated ability to reconcile inventory and daily transaction reports.
* Demonstrated ability to read and write as well as follow oral and written instructions.
* Demonstrated ability to perform basic mathematical calculations.
* Demonstrates strong interpersonal skills with the willingness to provide excellent customer service.
* Proven ability to communicate effectively with the public as well as internal staff.
* Previous experience with or familiarity of the Albemarle-Charlottesville area; with the ability to provide tourist information to visitors.
* Previous experience working in retail sales and using a cash register.
* Familiarity with stocking of inventory and merchandise display.

All hiring rates are commensurate with relevant experience up to the advertised amount considering internal alignment.
