This position is responsible for owning the fabric, trim, and color approval process by ensuring the timely development of new fabrics, trims and colors; maintaining the fabric, trim and color library, and communicating all raw material apprvoals, rejections and details.
This position is located in Manhattan, KS and works onsite, in office, every day.
Primary Responsibilities:
Evaluates lab dips visually and using Datacolor instrument.
Evaluates bulk fabric submits against established standards for appearance, hand feel, weight, stretch, and color.
Ensures color consistency to standard across multiple styles and fabrics and vendors.
Maintains color standard data, physical run cards and other data related to fabric and color.
Maintains complete and accurate approval records and approves product care instructions.
Communicates detailed directions to vendors and mills regarding all fabric/trim and color submits.
Sources new fabrics/trims and supplies the design team with recommendations on new fabrics, colors, and trims.
Stays current on new color processes and fabric technologies and sharing this information with all cross-functional teams as needed.
Requests color submits and ensures adherence to all established approval dates.
Assists with development of new Ultrafuse colors and approves final color swatches to ensure that new colors meet Champion Teamwear standards.
Maintains color management process for all sublimated standards (Ultrafuse, special projects, & Twill palettes).
Oversees and manages all fabric testing and makes recommendations to improve fabric functionalities.
Effectively communicates status updates and timeline discrepancies with internal and external teams.
Supports with quality issues as needed, reviewing concerns, testing outcomes, and providing direction for improvement.
Assists with research and problem-solving on QA issues.
Assists with special project requests as needed.
Supports product development, inventory planning, logistics, QA and other departments as needed.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in apparel or textiles preferred.
2+ years of experience in product development, sourcing or color management capacity.
Must score in the superior range using the Farnsworth-Munsell 100 Hue Test.
Understanding of fabric knitting, weaving, dying and finishing.
Experience communicating with oversee production partners.
Experience with fabric and trim sourcing and evaluations.
Experience managing color approvals
Knowledge of industry standards for quality and testing procedures.
Strong problem-solving skills
Organizational skills necessary to handle multiple tasks and report within deadlines.
Experience with Datacolor or other spectrophotometer and lightbox.
PC skills including Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook Excel), Adobe Creative Suite, PLM.
