Title: ACE Student Leader - Peer Tutor Role

General Summary: Peer tutors are faculty-recommended students who provide individual and small group tutoring sessions in subjects the tutor has attained a grade of B+ or better. Within their tutoring sessions, peer tutors integrate effective study and learning strategies as well as provide next steps to help the student become a successful, independent learner.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Tutor students in specific course material in the subject(s) you are qualified to tutor
Provide learning strategies and study tips to promote independent learning
Maintain consistent communication with your direct supervisors
Assist students in navigating Blackboard and understanding course expectations
Help students in locating and submitting assignments
Assist students in posting to a discussion board
Assist students in developing time management, communication, and study skills to promote academic success
Contribute to a friendly and productive learning environment within the ACE Department
Provide support to students through Blackboard, Zoom, email, or on-campus meetings
Assist in Academic Support workshops as needed
Attend ACE Student Leader training and monthly meetings
Be aware of and advocate for the other resources and services provided at MCC
Model appropriate academic attitudes and behaviors to staff, faculty, and students
Complete other ACE Department tasks as assigned
Job Requirements:
Must have completed and earned a B+ or higher in the course(s) that you wish to tutor
Maintain a minimum overall GPA of 3.0
Attend ACE Student Leader monthly meetings
Complete the required ACE Student Leader minimum 15-hour training
Demonstrate knowledge and competence in, as well as a passion for, the subject(s) you tutor
Demonstrate an ability to work and communicate well with students of various academic levels and diverse backgrounds
Be available 4-6 hours per week for tutoring (between 9am-6pm)
Effectively explain concepts to others and communicate study strategies to ensure academic success within the course
Complete and submit all ACE Department assignments and paperwork in a timely manner
Exhibit patience and positive attitudes in establishing an encouraging learning environment
Exhibit good organizational, communication, and basic computing skills
Work toward CRLA Level I certification
