Lead Fire & Security Technician



Reports To: Project Manager


Full Time Non-Exempt with Full Benefit Package including 401k



Position Summary: The Technician is responsible for leading a crew installing a variety of systems during the installation phase of new construction and existing buildings. Installs, programs and troubleshoots Fire Alarm and Security systems as required. Programs and troubleshoots other electronic systems from time to time. Maintains positive relationships with customers and contractors on the job site. Strong programming skills are critical for this position.



Essential Duties and Responsibilities: Performs all duties with honesty, integrity, and the pursuit of excellence.



1. Continually strives to achieve completion of the project on schedule, within budget, with quality workmanship that conforms to original plans and specifications.


2. Communicates effectively with Project Manager and Field Supervisor to maintain construction schedule and identify and solve problems.


3. Promotes job site safety encourages safe work practices and rectifies job site hazards immediately.


4. Ensures all company employees and subcontractors are adhering to company safety policy.


5. Maintains an organized job site, including all documentation as required.


6. Effectively utilizes Microsoft-based computers and programs to document job progress and communicate with others.


7. Maintains working knowledge of systems the company installs and adapts to and learns new systems as technology advances. Agrees to be a lifetime learner.



Other Duties and Responsibilities:



1. Takes part in on-call rotation for emergency after-hours service.


2. From time to time may be called upon to assist in other divisions including but not limited to: Nurse Call Communication System(s) .


3. Attends scheduled company meetings and events.


4. Attends training classes held either onsite or offsite as required.


5. Occasionally travels to job sites over 2 hours away that require overnight stays.



Requirements:



1. Must have a valid driver's license and clean driving record.


2. Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug screen and random drug screens.


3. Must have experience in the installation, programming, and troubleshooting of Fire Alarm systems.


4. Must have clear and effective oral and written communication skills.


5. Must have knowledge of how to read and interpret architectural, electrical, and mechanical drawings.


6. Must be able to pull and suspend wire according to code.


7. Employees should be willing and able to perform other related duties as they are assigned.


8. Must be able to safely use hand and power tools.


9. Must be able to effectively communicate with on-site supervisors to address minor problems that may arise in the field.



Physical Demands:



1. Must be able to regularly move up to 15 pounds, and frequently move up to 50 pounds.


2. Must be able to ascend, descend, and work atop ladders of varying heights, and exceeding 30 feet.


3. Must be able to distinguish colors and sound tones.


4. Must be able to recognize horn and/or warning devices at a distance of 30 yards.


5. Must be able to observe and detect signs of dangerous obstacles at a distance of 30 yards and to verify written information at a close range.



Work Conditions:



1. Work is conducted indoors and outdoors in a variety of weather conditions and within extreme temperature ranges.


2. From time to time the technician will be required to enter confined areas.


Tools: Technicians should be able to personally furnish a complete set of hand tools necessary for this position. SWC will supply corded and cordless power tools.
