Reporting to and working closely with the Administrative Dean for the Arts & Humanities Division of FAS, this position will play a crucial role in managing and overseeing a variety of administrative functions with the Division. This position is responsible for human resources, financial management, center operations, and diversity and inclusion initiatives. The successful candidate will work closely with various stakeholders to promote a positive work environment, ensure compliance with university policies, and drive forward strategic plans that support the Division's goals.

Position Description

Strategic Partnership. Trusted thought partner and member of the senior leadership team. Assists the Administrative Dean and Divisional Dean in shaping and implementing strategies to maximize engagement with and support for the vibrant Arts & Humanities community at Harvard. Weighs opportunity costs and resource implications associated with decisions. Identifies and shares best practices.

Human Resources and Organizational Management. Coach, develop, and, as needed, manage divisional DAs and Center Executive Directors. Manage the review and approval process for all HR-related requests and departmental reorganizations across the division. Thoughtfully recruit, develop, and retain a high-performing and collaborative team. Evaluate and selectively approve appointments, including research associates, postdocs, visiting scholars, fellows and interns. Partner with FAS HR, Title IX office, and Faculty Affairs to manage sensitive staff issues, including performance, conduct, and labor relations in collaboration with staff and faculty unit leaders.

Divisional Office Budget/Financial Management. Manage the A&H Divisional Office Budget, develop budget and financial forecasts, set priorities for operational expenses, and serve as secondary approver, as needed, for financial transactions across the division. Responsible for divisional financial approvals >$50,000.

Centers and Museums. Provide oversight of the division's educational centers and museums, developing and implementing systems and processes to enhance the effectiveness of and support the continuous evolution of initiatives to maximize faculty, student, and community engagement in humanistic learning. Represent the Arts & Humanities Division on various committees related to the division's international activities. Collaborates with OVPIA and Global Support Services to create and manage policy, procedures and processes for international operations and risk management for FAS and the university.

Leads special Administrative Projects for the Divisional Dean and Administrative Dean as opportunities arise, including developing infrastructure and staffing, space, faculty study group and other project work as needed.

Provide operational oversight for the Cervantes Institute, supervising the Program Manager for the Institute, and ensuring its activities align with the Division's goals and university policies. Responsibilities include managing administrative processes, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and supporting the Institute's mission to promote Spanish language and culture.

Represent the division and its units in school and university administrative committees/initiatives.

Ensure compliance with University policies and procedures and applicable legal rules and regulations.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree and/or a minimum of 10 years of administrative management experience in an academic leadership role required.

Additional Qualifications and Skills

Master's degree preferred. Experience working in an academic institution preferred. Must have collaborative working style with excellent project management, problem solving and presentation skills. Must have the ability to build strong relationships and influence decisions with people at all levels of the organization. Must be well organized, flexible, and able to manage multiple challenging projects simultaneously in a fast-paced work setting, and effectively manage a team under conditions. Ability to work independently and as a team player, managing multiple projects and constituents simultaneously. Knowledge of the workings of academic departments, centers, and museums preferred. Familiarity with international operations also preferred.

This is a hybrid position and will require at least 3 days on campus.
