Responsibilities

The tenure-line faculty member will teach undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students in TEELP and/or LLSS in accordance with the departments approved workload policy. Other responsibilities include developing an active research agenda, advising masters and doctoral; chairing and/or serving on inquiry projects, masters exams, theses, and doctoral dissertation committees; serving on department and university committees; and contributing to program partnerships and initiatives.

Minimum Qualifications

Earned doctorate from an accredited university in Reading/Literacy Education, English Education, language literacy, and sociocultural studies with specialization in literacy, and/or a closely related field. All requirements for the doctorate must have been completed by the time of the start date of the appointment

. Minimum of three years of successful experience as a Secondary educator (6-12) in urban, rural, or high-need districts.

Evidence of research in the area of Secondary Reading/Literacy education, or related field.

Certification in or willingness to be trained in the science of reading (or a reading endorsement).

Experience with a variety of course delivery methods.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience teaching in the content area in public secondary (grades 6-12) schools in urban, rural, or high-need districts.
  • Demonstrated commitment and experience with diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success. As well as working with broadly diverse, multilingual youth and communities.
  • Evidence of excellence or potential for excellence in teaching courses in Secondary Reading/Literacy education, English Language Arts methods, or related.
  • Approaches literacy in teaching from a multilingual perspective and considers the ways in which literacies live and are enacted in racialized bodies, politicized educational spaces, and/or diverse communities.
  • Evidence of excellence or potential for excellence in research in Reading/Literacy, English education, or related.
  • Ability to propose and develop innovative courses and programs that support professional learning for teachers around literacy that would also be embraced as relevant and timely for the Peoples of New Mexico.
  • Potential for leadership within the institution, community settings, and/or within state and national organizations.
  • Experience with or knowledge of education in urban and/or rural and Indigenous settings.
