Join us as a Sr. Automation Engineer for our Advanced Automation Group (AAG) and grow your career with a cutting-edge Automation team. The ideal candidate will have comprehensive knowledge and experience in the municipal and industrial sectors to continue to build on the existing automation team in Houston and support client development, in the water/wastewater, environment. manufacturing, and energy markets. This person will work collaboratively with Market Leaders and Commercial Managers in GHD to deliver modern plant automation services (e.g., Communications, PLC and SCADA control system design and programming, and cybersecurity) across the MidCon and West. It is anticipated you will contribute to overall AAG business planning, thought leadership and strategic planning based on your experience.

Working with an energetic and high performing team, this position offers a variety of work and will see you involved in:
Selection & specification of PLC, DCS, HMI, & SCADA system hardware and software
Programming automation hardware in the IEC 61131 Programming Languages (Ladder, Sequential Functions, Function Blocks, Structured Text), along with Visual Basic and Java
Onsite process control loop tuning.
HMI Design: ISA-101, Alarm Management, Historians
Specification and installation of Computer Hardware, Virtualization, Networking, Server/Client configurations
HAZOPs, Safety Instrumented Systems, System Reliability & Safety, Redundancy Design
Wireless Design and Implementation including Spread Spectrum, Cellular, and others
Cybersecurity Design and Implementation
Development of system documentation including Process Flow Diagrams, Process & Instrumentation Diagrams, Instrument Lists, Automation I/O Lists, IP Address Lists, Process Instrumentation Specification Forms, Loop Diagrams, Control Panel Layouts & Bills of Materials, Installation Details, Area Plans, Conduit/Cable schedules, Construction Specifications
Design of Discrete, Continuous and Batch Control Systems
As needed, specify Process Transmitters, Analytical Instrumentation, Control Valves, Motors, & VFDs
Control panel design
As needed, electrical engineering duties, consisting of design and specification of wire & cables, grounding & bonding, surge protection, enclosures, raceways, distribution equipment, motor controls, and conformance of control system and communications design to NFPA 70 & NFPA 70E
Cost estimation and proposal development
Project management and scope development
Coordination and assistance with system checkout & startup
Train end-users and maintenance personnel
Travel required for out-of-town projects
What you will bring to the team:
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; Master's degree a plus
Knowledge of Basic Chemistry, Mechanics, Physics, and Fluid Dynamics
Minimum of 15 years of automation & control systems experience
Professional Engineer (PE) license will be highly regarded
Proficiency in Allen-Bradley/Modicon automation platforms
Understanding of and experience in the development of SCADA systems, Databases and Analytics
Previous industrial and manufacturing experience is a plus
Strong verbal and written technical communication skills
Knowledgeable, and able to understand the latest Industrial Automation Hardware, Software, Communications, Cybersecurity, and IoT devices and platforms
Understand the interaction between OT and IT and how to market GHD's competencies in this space
Support and advance GHD's cyber/physical security presence in municipal and industrial sectors
Strong system integration experience
