The Department of Dramatic Art is seeking a director to participate in the Kenan Theatre Company's Fall production season, ending December 31, 2024.
As the largest unit on campus, the College of Arts and Sciences is the academic heart of the Carolina experience. The College consists of 43 academic departments and curricula and numerous programs, centers and institutes. It is home to more than 18,000 undergraduate students, including all of the University's first-year and second-year students. A bout 2,300 graduate students study and teach in the College. Established in 1936, we are the second oldest theatre department in the country. Our faculty members are both scholars and artists, teachers, and practitioners, constantly moving back and forth between the classroom and the theatre. PlayMakers Repertory Company (a nationally regarded LORT D theatre) is embedded within the Department and the symbiotic relationship between them is at the vital center of who we are. The Joan H. Gillings Center for Dramatic Art is the crucible where students transform learning into practice every day. Our mission is to educate students to think critically and write cogently about the creative and artistic processes of global theatre, its literature, and its history.
This position will serve as director for theatrical productions with the Kenan Theater Company.
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a degree preferably in the Theatre Arts, and some experience that provides the employee with the functional work experiences needed to perform the work; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Experience with casting and running auditions, directing theatrical productions, and experience working with students in a university setting.
Bachelor's degree in theatre arts, and demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
