POSITION SUMMARY:

The Department of Emergency Medicine at the University of South Florida Morsani College of Medicine is seeking a faculty member to serve as The Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs for the Department of Emergency Medicine. The Vice Chair of Clinical Affairs collaborates with the Chair of the Department of Emergency Medicine in establishing the strategic, clinical, and operational goals for emergency medicine. This role plays a pivotal role in defining and achieving the department's clinical and strategic ambitions. Collaborating closely with the Chair, the Vice Chair supports the advancement of emergency medicine services, acting as a key liaison with both internal and external partners to align on the department's primary clinical objectives. This position holds executive responsibility for the development, execution, and sustainability of clinical priorities and initiatives that drive the department's mission forward. This role requires a strategic leader with a clear vision for clinical excellence, demonstrated experience in clinical program development, and an ability to foster cross-functional relationships and operational alignment.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Teaching Duties: Participates actively in the teaching and/or research programs of the department/division, attending Emergency Medicine fellows, residents, and medical students, providing guidance and mentorship. Will expand clinical services within the college, and in the community. Will keep abreast of new developments and exhibit a scholarly approach to learning. Participates in didactic lectures, presentations, and discussions at Grand Rounds, seminars, workshops, journal clubs, research meetings, laboratory and clinical training. Serve as ACGME Core Faculty for the Emergency Medicine Residency Program.


  • Administrative Duties: The major responsibilities for this role center on strategic development, leadership, and operational oversight within the Department of Emergency Medicine. In strategic development, the role involves assisting with recruitment for leadership and clinical positions, formulating a clinical strategic plan that aligns with the goals of USF, TGH, and TEAMHealth, and creating new clinical programs to support the department's mission. The individual must set priorities and key metrics to drive growth, strengthen existing programs, and regularly meet with divisions to ensure alignment and progress toward the department?s objectives.


  • Leadership responsibilities require the individual to represent the department with clinical partners and foster strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders. Supports Chairman in strategic initiatives, understand challenges within clinical divisions, and help develop off-campus clinical programs. Operational oversight includes collaborating with site Medical Directors to streamline care pathways, mentoring operations-focused faculty, and conducting annual division reviews to establish success metrics. The role ensures the department's clinical vision is met across all emergency department sites and among clinical division leaders.

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

MINIMUM:

Medical degree from an accredited institution or the highest degree appropriate in the field of specialization with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service. Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor. For Associate/Full Professor - Normally will have produced creative work, professional writing or research in refereed and other professional journals, and be a recognized authority in the field of specialization.

Must hold or be eligible for a full, unrestricted Florida Medical License or foreign equivalent required. To perform this position, the candidate will need to obtain and maintain a full un-restricted FL Medical License, maintain credentials in the USF Health faculty practice plan, and be a medical staff member in good standing at the hospitals he/she is assigned to perform clinical duties. The candidate will participate in the teaching of residents, fellows, and medical students in clinical medicine.

PREFERRED:

Previous experience in a teaching setting preferred.
