Purpose
The Case Manager offers support and services to refugees to help them successfully make a new home in the United States.
Responsibilities
Welcome and orient refugee populations to the community and culture.
Assist Cuban-Haitian Entrants clients in developing self-sufficiency plans.
Assist Cubans-Haitian Entrants clients with public benefits applications and referrals to obtain SNAP, WIC, Medicaid and public education.
Provide case management and identify support services that help clients to better integrate and succeed in their new community, including ESL, job training, transportation, immigration services, and childcare.
Document all contacts and services in client case files and maintain case note logs. In addition to documenting all services, record clients' public assistance usage. Complete all required reports.
Provide translation/interpretation and accompaniment to clients when necessary.
Attend community outreach event and meetings, trainings and conferences about services for Cuban Haitians.
Keep informed about refugee and immigrant issues, and available services to refugees, using current information to better identify and serve refugee clients.
Represent the program at meetings and speaking engagements relevant to the responsibilities of the position.
Perform all duties in a culturally and linguistically appropriate manner.
Undertake other duties as assigned.
Work varied hours, including some evenings and weekends.
Qualifications
Education:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of experience in lieu of degree.
Experience:
3 years of previous work experience and interest in refugee resettlement, case management or other direct social services to migrants and refugees.
Other Skills:
Fluency in Haitian Creole or Spanish is required. Superior English written and verbal communication skills are required. The successful candidate must be computer literate, with proficiency in MS Office (Excel and Word) and internet applications.
Special Requirements
This position is a combination of in office and remote work. Travel to Trenton and Jersey City may be required for the role.
