You will perform various administrative functions in this position, including communications, copy services, lectures, continuing education workshops, and other center activities.

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Center Manager, the Research Coordinator I will assist with the administrative tasks required for the smooth running of the assigned project.

Position Key Accountabilities:


  • Coordinates the day-to-day business and financial processes. May trend past performance and forecast future financials.
  • Coordinates and monitors travel, purchasing, payroll, contracts and grants.
  • Assistant in reconciling contracts and grants projects.
  • Regularly handles confidential information and sensitive issues.
  • Coordinates and schedules Human Resources activities including recruiting and selection for classified staff.
  • Monitors open encumbrances. Monitors expenditures and provides reports on the budget status. Provides a comparison between actual and budget.
  • Responsible for acquisition of documents needed to monitor adherence to grant or program requirements.
  • Maintain departmental equipment and space inventories.
  • May train entry level support staff.
  • Advises on financial and business practices, policy and procedures as assigned by supervisor. Is responsible for making routine business and financial decisions and judgment calls.
  • Assigned routine budget and financial responsibilities by supervisor. Maintains and reconciles
  • Assist with coordination of lecture series and other department events.
  • Coordinate department project/administrative files for storage for the mandatory retention period, including surplus department equipment and materials no longer needed.
  • Provide support for department faculty as needed.
  • Responsible for entering and processing deposits and invoicing service contracts or salary reimbursement agreements against department funds.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Certification/Skills:


  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal.
    Working knowledge of MS Office.

Minimum Education/ Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or relevant experience in lieu of education.

Physical Requirements:

Exerts up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 10 pounds frequently and/or a negligible amount constantly to move objects.
This position may include work involving potentially hazardous chemical, biological or radioactive agents.

Security Sensitive:

This job class may contain positions that are security sensitive and thereby subject to the provisions of Texas Education Code § 51.215

Residency Requirement:

Employees must permanently reside and work in the State of Texas.
