  • US Starting Salary for this role will be USD $64,000 to $76,000 commensurate on experience.

The Global Security team supports the agency to ensure that team members can work safely, whilst enabling programming and operations.To ensure that team members understand the nature of safety and security risks and can manage those risks effectively, Global Security provides training in personal security, security management, crisis management, first aid and trauma care, hostile environment awareness and other key areas. Our way of training and learning draws on both digital and live methods, adopting adult learning principles and methodologies where the perspective of the learning developer is Learner-centric, the content and learning product is accessible, relevant, memorable and works within the Learners regular day to day activities. As learning is continually growing and evolving, we want to be at the forefront of applying innovative learning and development methods so that Mercy Corps team members can actively make a difference in other people's lives, whilst always being safe and secure. .The PositionThe successful candidate will work in the Global Security team to develop and deliver a diverse portfolio of programmes, modules and learning materials related to safety and security. This is a new role, and we are looking for someone who can confidently develop, adopt and present training material, engaging with audiences to equip them with the skills, behaviors and attitudes to operate safely in high-risk environments.The individual should have a sound understanding of adult learning theory and the ability to deliver engaging, pedagogically sound and effective content that aligns with the Global Securitys training, learning and development objectives. We need an effective communicator who can build strong relationships with training participants. We are looking for someone who can deliver against training standards and best practices, and align with Global Securitys training, learning and development objectives.The ideal candidate is highly proficient in English. Fluency in an additional language, such as French, Spanish, or Arabic is beneficial for the role. They should have substantial experience in the humanitarian sector, adult learning, or civil security and safety, combined with excellent interpersonal skills. This role requires extensive travel to deliver face to face training, as well as on-line delivery.Essential ResponsibilitiesSTRATEGY AND PLANNING
  • Consult with the Director of Capacity Strengthening and Training, and Regional Security Advisors to determine trends and regional training needs.
  • Plan, prepare, and facilitate training for team members, security focal points, senior management, on security functions, processes, responsibilities, and more, considering variances in cultural learning styles and contexts.
  • Support in the development and implementation of the global training strategy.
  • Support in the capacity strengthening of partners, adapting and developing resources where necessary. .
.DELIVERY
  • Travel to countries to conduct training needs assessment and/or deliver training.
  • Confidently deliver training, interacting effectively with stakeholders and participants.
  • Contextualize the training provided and ensure consistency of messages delivered through all training materials.
.QUALITY ASSURANCE
  • Support in the monitoring and evaluation of training to determine its effectiveness and, if necessary, propose changes to the content.
  • Maintain a documentation review cycle to ensure training content remains accurate and up to date with processes and procedures.
  • Evaluate the learning experience (using LMS data, pre and post survey assessments, etc) to identify actionable insights to drive continuous improvements in learning.
  • Actively update technical, language, and process changes to existing courses as needed, to maintain currency.
  • Contribute to the drafting of reports sent to senior management to evidence the value of training being delivered.
.TRACKING AND MONITORING
  • Ensure documentation and statistical data on training is maintained and archived in an orderly and accessible manner.
  • Support in the review and analysis of data relating to completion/attendance of courses.

  • Actively incorporate safeguarding into recruitment processes, identifying and mitigating risks.

.Supervisory ResponsibilityThe Roving Security Trainer has no supervisory responsibilities..AccountabilityReports Directly To: Director of Capacity Strengthening and Training, Global SecurityWorks Directly With: Global Security team members and other learning and development counterparts across the agency..Accountability to Participants and StakeholdersMercy Corps team members are expected to support all efforts toward accountability, specifically to our program participants, community partners, other stakeholders, and to international standards guiding international relief and development work. We are committed to actively engaging communities as equal partners in the design, monitoring and evaluation of our field projects..Minimum Qualifications & Transferable Skills
  • Bachelors degree (or equivalent) and 4+ years of experience in the humanitarian sector, adult training (including educational engineering) and/or civil safety and security;
  • Strong understanding of security risk management and risk assessment processes.
  • Experience working in high-risk areas, including disasters and fragile and conflict-affected states.
  • Experience in organizing and facilitating adult training and public speaking.
  • Experience in NGO safety and security management, personal security, humanitarian access and negotiation.
  • Ability to interact effectively at all levels and across diverse cultures.
  • Ability to work independently and remotely.
  • Excellent planning, management and coordination skills, excellent organizational skills and high attention to detail.
  • Ability to quickly learn and utilize new techniques and technologies, as required.
  • Ability to exercise independent judgment and decision-making skills.
  • Proficiency in English (spoken, written, and reading) is required. Fluency in an additional language, such as French, Spanish, or Arabic, is a plus.
