Overview
DDC-IT Services is seeking individuals to fill a remote role of Senior z/OS Performance Tuning/Capacity Planning Specialist. Active Secret Clearance and eligibility to acquire a Top Secret Clearance is required for this role.
Responsibilities
Estimate and recommend the resources needed to support Department of Defense (DoD) planned software/hardware upgrades.
Analyze and verify z/OS configuration for proper performance and operation by studying appropriate System Management Facility/Resource Management Facility (SMF/RMF) reports.
Detect system bottlenecks caused by resource contention and take corrective actions to alleviate constraint issues following DoD’s Change Control process. Resources include, but are not limited to CP, zIIP, main storage, switches, channels, controllers, DASD I/O rate, tape I/O rate, printers, and Open Systems Adapters (OSA) network interface.
Evaluate transaction response times with relationship to Service Level Agreements (SLAs). Provide results to various groups.
Identify any workload delays and performance issues. Determine reasons for delays, evaluate appropriate cost-effective changes, predict effect of changes and implement changes using DoD Change Control Process.
Define and adjust Workload Manager (WLM) performance goals of workloads based on business needs.
Analyze, plan, define, adjust and implement WLM service policy, service classes, classification rules, service definitions and performance goals based on SLAs following DoD Change Control process.
Analyze I/O configuration and subsystems considering the performance implications.
Customize Allen Systems Group’s TMON or other performance monitoring suite of products to monitor system health and workload productivity.
Produce the monthly reports concerning the Sub-Capacity Workload Charging using IBM Sub-Capacity Report Tool (SCRT). These reports will be used for billing and to identify areas for tuning to reduce overall cost of operation.
Analyze z/OS UNIX environment and take tuning steps to ensure SLAs are reached.
Analyze WLM and make adjustments in WLM service policy following DoD’s Change Control process to ensure SLAs are reached.
Use MXG Software or other designated software to produce monthly and ad hoc performance reports.
Plan and configure WLM service classes and classification rules for workloads.
Plan, analyze and configure Distributive File System (zFS) to improve file system performance.
Plan, analyze and generate reports from various SMF/RMF records.
Analyze Customer Information Control System (CICS), WebSphere, IBM Integration Bus (IIB), Message Query (MQ), and other online subsystems transactions to ensure SLAs are reached.
Evaluate existing systems and application software and recommend improvements for response times.
Plan and implement performance improvements that reduces CPU consumption.
Plan, configure, and implement Adaptable Database System (ADABAS) reporting of performance and resource consumption data through SMF/RMF.
Develop, document, and deliver benchmark specifications, benchmark tests and acceptance testing requirements and processes.
Support DOD Cyber Security requirements, Authority to Operate (ATO) preparation, and security audits.
Qualifications
Active Secret Clearance and eligibility to acquire a Top Secret Clearance
Bachelor's degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Math and seven years' experience monitoring IBM mainframe systems, performing capacity and workload analysis, as well as recommended projections of utilization. Or Ten years' experience monitoring IBM mainframe systems, performing capacity and workload analysis, as well as recommended projections of utilization.
