Position Summary:
BLDI is seeking a Environmental Scientist/Environmental Engineering Technician to join our busy team in Grand Rapids, Michigan. The ideal candidate will assist in conducting a variety of environmental due diligence reports, including but not limited to, Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, Baseline Environmental Assessments, and Due Care Plans.
The Environmental Scientist/Environmental Engineering Technician will:
Collect data and document field conditions for our remediation sites. This includes: preparation and cleaning of equipment, operation of field sampling pumps and monitoring instruments, collection of soil, groundwater and soil gas samples, surveying, logging of soil borings, groundwater monitoring well installations, collection of field results and monitoring, documentation of field event, preparation of samples for laboratory pick-up.
Participate in a predominance of field work with out-of-town travel and overnight stays.
Develop tables, figures, and a variety of reports/documents for our remediation department.
Follow company safety standards, participate in safety training, and prepare and implement site safety plans.
Assist with implementation of remediation system installation or other project-specific labor tasks. This can include, but is not limited to: minor concrete or asphalt repair work, use of various power tools (jackhammers, concrete coring machines, drills, etc.), hand digging/minor trenching, treatment blower service operations (training provided), transporting empty drums, use of hand augers, etc.
Qualifications:
Bachelor of Science (or higher) degree: preference may be given to Environmental Engineering or Geology degrees; however Environmental Science, Biology or other related disciplines will also be considered.
1 to 3 years’ experience in a related field.
OSHA 40-hour HAZWOPER preferred but not required.
Proficiency in Microsoft word, excel, and outlook.
Excellent communication skills, both written and orally, with project managers, clients, and other staff.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to multi-task.
Ability to meet deadlines and handle multiple projects at the same time.
Ability to comfortably and safely operate company-owned vehicles, including occasionally pulling a small trailer.
Ability to lift and /or move up to 50 pounds.
Ability to pass an extensive background investigation and pre-employment drug screen, including but not limited to personal and professional financial history, nationwide criminal record search, motor vehicle records, credit check and other relevant background information deemed necessary by WDC.
Travel Requirements:
Much of the work is outside the Grand Rapids and requires multiple days per week with overnight stays in hotels in southeast Michigan. Related expenses, including hotel and meals, are covered by BLDI.
