Job Description: The Sr Director of Data Center Development manages the strategic planning, design, and construction of renewable energy sources supporting data center facilities. The Sr Director is responsible for overall strategic planning development, engineering, interconnection, and project management to support renewable energy data center project development(s). The Sr Director will initiate and advance project feasibility studies for early to mid-stage renewable energy project development activities and overall project management oversight through construction. The Sr Director will lead interdepartmental and cross business unit project teams and take an active role in leading multi-disciplined technical and commercial teams required to successfully complete renewable energy development projects, capable of serving hyperscale data center client's energy requirements. The Sr Director establishes and implements business objectives and strategies to meet company objectives and implements and supports company programs and policies. Responsibilities:
Develop and execute a comprehensive strategic plan and technical goals around data center growth opportunities including siting identification supporting renewable energy development projects.
Lead the planning, design, and construction activities of new renewable energy projects supporting data center facilities with ownership of project and business objectives for successful completion of project deliverables, including resource allocation, schedule and budget optimization, and quality standards enforcement.
Build and lead a high-performing team of skilled individuals, performing effective management activities while supporting organizational goals and objectives and planning, organizing, integrating, measuring and reporting the work performed within the department.
Establish and maintain strong relationships with industry vendors, stakeholders, and other external partners, identifying, managing and mitigating contract and project risk to minimize company exposure and achieve successful project outcomes.
Manage project design activities, meet planning criteria and comply with all applicable regulatory standards and industry best practices.
Effectively manage third-party contracts through development, negotiation, execution and management activities, including related development agreements, land lease and real estate, power purchase agreements, electric transmission interconnection agreements, and EPC contracts. Identify, manage and mitigate contract and project rick to minimize company exposure and achieve successful project execution.
Track and evaluate technology advances and changes in industry work practices; recommend enhancements, measuring continuous improvement internal benchmarks; and integrating new technology into BHE Renewables to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of renewable energy projects and meet evolving data center requirements.
Provide leadership and guidance for the training and development of staff in the areas of field assessment and restoration activities, in collaboration with operations internal stakeholders.
Manage and develop relationships with interdepartmental and cross-functional teams to optimize project workflows and decision-making processes.
Perform additional responsibilities as requested or assigned.
Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field or equivalent work experience. (Eight years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree).
Master's degree in a technical field or MBA preferred.
A minimum of 10 years related experience in engineering, utility and/or data center siting, development or construction, or similar work environment and analytical skills, including three years supervisory/management responsibilities.
A minimum of 5 years of large capital project management or strategic development.
Proficient in ESRI-based platform applications and other mapping/drafting tools such as ArcGIS, QGIS, AutoCAD, and Google Earth.
Proven experience with legal and regulatory compliance.
Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with interdisciplinary teams, including presentation skills.
Excellent analytical and evaluation skills to define critical tasks and establish optimum sequence of events and identify required resources.
Problem-solving skills and the ability to adapt solutions to specific project requirements.
