Responsibilities
Basic PurposeOversee and lead a team of bargaining unit relay technicians. Provide construction and maintenance services for protection systems on the transmission and distribution system (may also include generation). Provide testing and documentation services as required by WECC/NERC. May serve as a compliance lead for NV Energy. Provide 24/7 response for substation related alarms and outages. Provide a safe, transparent and accountable atmosphere for relay technicians. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Creates a safe working environment for relay technicians. Ensure the team is continuing to be safe and are supported with the tools necessary to perform their jobs safely.
Executes and documents all maintenance and testing services for protection systems on the transmission and distribution systems (may include generation systems).
Executes and documents all construction and pre-testing services for protection systems on the transmission and distribution systems (may include generation systems).
Acts as a compliance lead and/or a subject matter expert for all applicable WECC/NERC reliability standards and criterion. Leads the team to maximize relay operations.
Participates and oversees 24/7 response team for operational needs during system restoration and outages.
Responds to dispatch calls during business hours for all relay related outages/alarms and participate on rotational weekly 24/7 on-call duties.
Responsible for applicable OMAG and capital budgeting. Responsible for applicable software, including but not limited to, Powerbase and RTS.
Executes or oversees training services for the department. Monitors and enforces all compliance requirements for area of responsibility. Ensures all compliance aspects of position are known and followed; understands and complies with all policies, codes and regulations applicable to position and company. Performs related duties as assigned.
Requirements
Essential Education, Skills, and Environment Education and Work Experience Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school plus 6 years of electric utility or relay technical work experience. Candidates that do not possess a bachelor’s degree must have a minimum of 10 years of related work experience with at least six years of electric utility or relay technical experiences. Specialized Knowledge and Skills Demonstrated knowledge of:
system protection concepts, philosophy and schemes
system protection commissioning and testing services
WECC/NERC regulatory requirements to maintain compliance
General bargaining unit agreements and its implementation.
Demonstrated skills such as:
Leadership, planning, organizational, analytical, interpersonal and communication.
Equipment and Applications PCs, word processing, spreadsheet and database software. Required practical knowledge of RTU protocols, Relay Test Systems (RTS), POWERBASE, Doble ProTest, and SharePoint. Work Environment and Physical Demands General office environment. No special physical demands required.
Compensation
Annual Salary: $133,000 (Min) to $156,500 (Mid); Up to 20% Short Term Incentive Plan target opportunity at the discretion of the company. This is a non-represented position.
