Master’s degree in Education or a related field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and four years of directly related professional experience. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills required. Demonstrated attention to detail, initiative and problem-solving skills required.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience working in a K-12 or higher education setting is preferred. Knowledge of enrollment services, student advising and registration is preferred. Demonstrated ability to utilize a Learning Management System e.g. Canvas, Blackboard) and Student Information System (e.g. Banner) is preferred.
Job Description Summary
The University of South Alabama’s Enrollment Services department is seeking to hire a Director, Start South. Interested candidates should apply to be considered.
Essential Functions These are the job duties required of the position.
Essential Functions
Directs the strategic planning of the program.
Manages all dual enrollment and early college access programs in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders.
Collaborates with other University personnel to plan, develop and implement uniform campus processes and structures that provide service and support to all Start South students.
Serves as liaison for technology as it relates to Start South programs.
Develops and maintains strong working relationships with public schools, private schools, homeschools, and other colleges and universities.
Designs and manages the full student enrollment cycle, including the student application process and the advising and registration process.
Oversees multiple programs that run under different secondary guidelines.
Revises and leads the Start South Success course as the online instructor.
Serves as the University contact for dual enrollment and early college for AL Boards of Education and the ALSDE.
Collaborates with department chairs to implement coursework appropriate to the Start South vision.
Reviews and revises the Start South application and acceptance communications.
Manages SACSCOC guidelines for dual enrollment.
Designs on-campus summer activities for high school students.
Creates contact and manage Start South website.
Manages and oversees Start South program development and brand in terms of number of participating Start South students.
Provides one-on-one advising sessions and registration help; supervises student staff.
Collaborates with faculty on solutions for at-risk Start South students.
Fosters positive, professional and effective written and verbal communication with University personnel, school district personnel, students, and parents.
Serves as a campus point-of-contact for students, parents, high school personnel, and University personnel.
Works with University personnel in the implementation of policy, including adherence to legislative mandates, University accreditation requirements, district school practices and processes (e.g. application collection, textbook purchases, scheduling requirements, graduation, etc.), internal University policy (transcripts, grade appeals, application deadlines, curriculum requirements, assessment policy, etc.)
Works cooperatively with the Innovation in Learning Center in the planning and implementation of workshops, conferences, seminars and other professional development activities related to Start South.
Leads campus-based efforts to create opportunities for positive student engagement.
Expertly uses technologies such as Zoom, Banner, and customer relations/academic management programs (Slate, Navigate South) required to lead all aspects of enrollment and reporting.
Coordinates, collaborates, and supports campus specific activities designed to increase student success and retention.
Collaborates with the Office of the Registrar to process registration paperwork for Start South.
Collaborates with Enrollment Services and maintains open lines of communications with schools and the community to recruit qualified students for Start South, including conducting orientations and other Start South presentations for stakeholders.
Develops campus-based tracking tools of academic performance for dual enrollment students, including grades, credit hour limitations, and early admission qualifications.
Provides programmatic leadership through participation on committees, task forces and community agency advisory boards as appropriate for growth and development of the Start South program.
Maintains currency with trends in early college access programs, student development, enrollment management, and their application process.
Collaborates with other University personnel to plan, develop, and implement uniform campus processes and structures that provide service and support to all Start South students.
Travels locally and to schools throughout the state to develop partnerships and recruit students.
Regular and prompt attendance.
Ability to work scheduled as defined and additional hours as required, including some overnight travel.
Related duties as required.
