Duties and Responsibilities | The Financial Aid Specialist is responsible for awarding financial aid to eligible students. In carrying out these duties the Financial Aid Specialist will: Assess an individual student’s financial need and ascertains the student’s eligibility to participate in federal, state and /or institutional aid programs; Analyze background information submitted by students on various financial aid applications and ensures data is consistent on all documents; Communicate with students and parents on the manner to integrate their financial concerns, relative to personal and/or academic concerns; Conduct financial aid workshops/conferences and completes all internal and external reports; Evaluate the academic status of each applicant relative to his or her eligibility for assistance under the federal aid programs; Keep abreast of regulations and guidelines pertaining to the student Financial Aid Program; Program management of federal, state and/or institutional award programs; and, Other duties as assigned. |
Education | Bachelor’s degree preferred. |
---|---|
Experience | One (1) year experience in financial aid operations preferred.. Thorough knowledge of federal and state financial aid regulations, policies and procedures. Knowledge of mainframe and personal computer is required. Experience with financial aid systems is required. Preference will be given for candidates with PeopleSoft knowledge. |
Knowledge Skills and Abilities | One year of specialized experience preferred. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties as described above. Applicant must also possess working knowledge of Financial Aid Programs, such as Pell, SEOG, College Work-study., Federal Direct Students Loans and State Aid; experience in an automated office. |
Conditions of Employment | May require evening and weekend work. Please be advised, COVID-19 vaccinations are not required but encouraged for faculty and staff to be employed at Bowie State University. |
