Organization Summary:

The University of South Florida (USF) Institute of Applied Engineering (IAE) provides agile, best-value engineering solutions to enhance the performance, effectiveness of its sponsors, including the Department of Defense; other federal, state, and local agencies; and industry. These engineering solutions include hardware-and-software-based research, advanced technology development, prototypes, and technical services.

USF IAE provides internships to a multitude of organizations including:

Accenture Federal Services is a leading US federal services company and subsidiary of Accenture LLP.Accenture offers U.S. federal government consulting services to stay ahead of the most pressing economic, environmental, social & safety changes. They offer support services for various industrial and technological needs such as: Cybersecurity, Data and Artificial Intelligence, Digital Engineering and Manufacturing, Enterprise Platforms, Finance and Risk Management, Learning, etc. The internship program is administered by USF Institute of Applied Engineering.

Responsibilities:

The duties listed may change and/or may not be representative of all tasks associated with the position selected. Two internship positions are available: Software Engineer & Data Scientist.


  • Design, develop, troubleshoot, and analyze computer software.
  • Review architecture and integrate appropriate development and support tools to insure product performance.
  • Investigate, identify, and resolve code issues logged internally by QA or end users
  • Familiarize yourself with company accounts and related hardware to maintain data.
  • Remote capabilities. Ability to occasionally travel to Tampa worksites.

Desired Skills and Position Qualifications:

Candidates for this internship should be full time students in a related field of study. Candidates should have hands-on classroom/team project technical experience. The Institute of Applied Engineering values individuals who demonstrate a passion for problem solving and a willingness to learn. Desired qualifications include:

General Skills:


  • Ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies and tools.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Attention to detail and ability to work independently or as part of a team.
  • Good communication skills for effective collaboration with team members and stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree at a local accredited University with a Junior or Senior standing.
  • Current GPA of 3.0 or above

Data Scientist Specifics:


  • Degree in the following: Computer Science, Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Information Technology, etc.
  • Ability to identify trends and provide insight for decision-making.
  • Understanding visualizations of trends and utilization for user satisfaction.
  • Ability to read and review code. Experience with languages such as Python, R, SQL, etc.

Software Engineer Specifics:


  • Degree in the following: Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, Computer Engineering, Web Development, Game Development, Cybersecurity, etc.
  • Problem solving skills. Understanding of trail and error.
  • Ability to read and review code. Experience with languages such as Python, R, SQL, etc.

Time Commitment:


  • This appointment is scheduled for Fall 2024
  • The time commitment is 15-20 hours per week for the Fall semester.
  • Most positions are in-person. Some position may offer limited remote work opportunities.
