The Facilities Management Department at Old Dominion University is seeking candidates for the Inspector (full-time, 12 month) position.
The incumbent in this position plays a critical role in ensuring that construction work is done safely and in accordance with code, while maintaining the project schedule's critical path. Perform construction inspections for projects assigned in compliance with the Commonwealth of Virginia, Construction and Professional Services Manual, General Conditions, Section 16, titles, "Inspection". Perform construction document reviews and associative construction project reports, record keeping and code related inspections and authorizations as required. Perform all duties in a manner that will promote the progress of the work.
Required Qualifications: Considerable knowledge of construction procedures, principles, and codes. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Effective skills in reading and understanding construction contract documents and blueprints. Effective negotiation skills. Proficiency in MS Word, Excel and MS Project. Demonstrated ability to recognize construction discrepancies, problems, inconsistencies, and ensure correction or solution by documentation and necessary action. Demonstrated ability to maintain thorough records of all project conditions and situations.
Special Licenses, registration, or certification: Valid driver's license and insurable driving record.
Additional Considerations: State Recognized license in commercial building inspection or Trade Master License or ICC Building inspection certification. Considerable experience as a certified (city, state or federal) building inspector and/or Project Management Professional (PMP), to include onsite inspections of healthcare facilities such as hospitals, clinics and lab spaces to evaluate the facility's compliance with rules, standards and best practices for patient care, security and infection control. Basic experience working in scheduling software such as Primavera, Suretrack or MS Project. 10 Hour OSHA Training Course. Some experience interacting with code officials in the Commonwealth of Virginia. Working proficiency in a range of Microsoft Office products including PowerPoint.

This position is required to complete a Statement of Personal Economic Interest upon hire. Facilities Management employees are considered essential personnel and subject to
working during university closings.
