A Day in the Life
The Software Test Engineer is involved in the quality assurance stage of software development and deployment. Test Engineers may conduct automated and manual test to ensure the software fit its purpose seamlessly. The test engineers ensure product quality through the development and execution of automated tests. The test engineer's primary responsibility will include designing and implementing tests, debugging, and defining corrective actions. The Test Engineer monitors all stages of software development and resolve system malfunctions to meet the quality standards.

*This position is onsite in Northridge, CA (hybrid)

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.


  • Participate in detailed, comprehensive and well-structured test strategies, plan and test cases

  • Collaborate with manager and leads on all aspects of quality

  • Use professional concepts and company policies & procedures to solve a wide range of complex problems effectively and efficiently

  • Apply QA processes for new and existing products to meet client needs

  • Establish and evolve formal QA processes, ensuring industry-accepted best practices

  • Evaluate the functional and non-functional requirements or specs for testability and suitability for automation

  • Ensures that products conform to business requirements/company policies, software, quality standards, and established procedures using open-source tools

  • Oversee test runs and the investigation of non-conforming software and train users to implement solutions

  • Recommend corrective actions taken at all stages of product life

  • Perform thorough regression testing when issues are resolved

  • Liaise with developers and product managers to identify system requirements and have customer focused testing approach

  • Participates in reviews of technical documentation, such as user manuals and suggests.

  • improvements and tests incorporated procedures

  • Proofread technical documentation for the Technical Writing and Product Management

  • departments

  • Stay up to date with new testing tools and test strategies

  • Participate in pre-sales and serves as subject matter expert

Must Have: Minimum Requirements


  • Bachelor's degree required with 2 + years of relevant experience

  • Or, an advanced degree

Nice to Have


  • Experience in Medical device industry Familiarity with HIPPA / FDA compliance

  • Device testing experience

  • Hands-on automation scripting experience in Java/Python

  • Strong knowledge of Agile (SCRUM) methodologies and tools with demonstrated experience in an automation role

  • 4+ years of QA testing, including creating test artifacts and reporting defects

  • 4 + years of strong automation testing experience, preferably in Python Strong knowledge of Agile testing methodologies with Jira and best practices

  • Knowledge and a full understanding of Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC) principles

  • Ability to deliver high-quality work and adapt to new challenges, both as an individual and as part of a team

  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$80,800.00 - $121,200.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).
