Job Summary
Serves on a team of professionals charged with leading and implementing all University Housing disciplinary processes as a University level case coordinator. Assists in the coordination of students of concern case management for Residential Life and Family and Graduate Housing, facilitates restorative practices to support the residential curricular model of education, and serves as a member of the Residential Life Central Staff Team. Ensures that all processes related to student discipline are enacted with ethical principles and a social justice approach. All University Housing staff will engage and contribute to a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within University Housing.
PRIMARY POSITION FUNCTION/SUMMARY

Assists in the coordination of students of concern case management for Residential Life and Family and Graduate Housing, facilitates restorative practices to support the residential curricular model of education, and serves as a member of the Residential Life Central Staff Team. Ensures that all processes related to student discipline are enacted with ethical principles and a social justice approach.
All University Housing staff will engage and contribute to a culture of diversity, equity, and inclusion within University Housing.
Duties and Responsibilities
Student Discipline, Safety, & Security Program Responsibilities
Provide assistance to Residence Hall Director and Area Coordinator staff through staff training and coaching to effectively deal with and follow up on disciplinary or other incidents at the hall or area level.
Conduct investigations and hearings in response to alleged violation(s) of the University Student Code by individual students.
Investigate alleged violations of the Student Code that fall under the jurisdiction of the subcommittees of the Senate Committee on Student Discipline, including the Subcommittee on Sexual Misconduct, prepare any involved parties for a formal hearing where appropriate, and present the results of investigations directly to the faculty and student members of the subcommittees for adjudication.
Assist in the direction and evaluation of the Residence Hall Directors and Area Coordinators in the area of conduct in their roles as University case coordinators.
Utilize the University of Illinois Police Department Security Staff in support of Residential Life Community Standards objective.
Engage in follow-up for mental health cases by working with hall staff to develop and track progress on plans of action.
Provide in person, periodic follow-up with students directly after critical incidents.
Coordinate the transfer of management responsibilities for critical incidents when a response begins during the workday and transitions to duty staff for follow up.
Serve in an advisory role to the appropriate Senate Subcommittee on Student Conduct or to University administrators during hearings.
Chair the University Housing Community Standards and Policy Review committee.
Assist in the coordination of University Housing's bias and intolerance response by enacting educational strategies as a result of complaints filed.
Coordinate mental health crisis response for University Housing residents.
Collaborate with the Office of Dean of Students, Disability Resources and Education Services, and Counseling Center related to students of concern and/or those involved in discipline and/or title IX investigations.
Participate year-round in a rotation of on-call coverage for crisis response back up to Residence Hall Directors, including during the academic year, university break periods for break housing, summer school, and conference season.
Community Development
Serve as the co-advisor to the Restorative Practice and Community Program.
Co-lead restorative practice departmental initiatives.
Engage and assist with developing and driving University Housing's diversity, equity and inclusion initiatives.
Oversee the University Housing safety education programs and security initiatives.
Create and implement lesson plans to achieve the goals and learning outcomes of the residential curriculum.
Conduct evaluation and assessment of curricular strategies.
Identify learning objectives specific to the learning goals of interpersonal competence and engaged citizenship for students who live in University Housing.
Educate residents, faculty, and staff regarding University and Housing policies and procedures.
Work closely with the University Housing Marketing staff to draft safety education related messages to University Housing residents and guests as needed.
Maintain positive working relationships with Residential Life, University Housing, the Office of Student Conflict Resolution and other staff within the University who contribute to the effectiveness of the educational disciplinary process in University Housing.
Demonstrate self-awareness of own social identities, privilege, and biases while actively engaged in learning about other cultures, viewpoints, and traditions in order to serve a diverse population.
Demonstrate a wide range of interpersonal skills to build and sustain an inclusive community.
Demonstrate experience leading and/or supporting inclusive and equitable practices.
Administrative Responsibilities
Serve as part of the communications team for recording, processing, and distributing nightly incident summary reports.
Disseminate Fire Safety Assessments each semester and follow up on related concerns.
Oversee and analyze data gathered for surveillance video requests.
Maintain critical incident log for mental health incidents, alcohol/drug transports and significant community conflicts.
Other duties as assigned.
Additional Physical Demands
Travel both on and off campus. Requires inconsistent work schedule that may vary from day-to-day and week-to-week. This position participates in an on-call rotation which could include overnight or weekend calls to help manage emergency situations. This is a fast-paced work environment dealing with highly emotionally taxing incidents.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree.
A minimum of two (2) years full time work experience in Residential Life, Housing or college and university Student Conduct (graduate assistantships are considered part-time work).
Experience with campus safety and security programs, crisis intervention, a demonstrated ability to work with and respect diverse students and staff, and excellent interpersonal, communication, and conflict management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs, College Student Personnel, or a closely related field. Experience in residential life or university or college housing.
Experience implementing student conduct and handling Title IX-related incidents.
Strong administrative skills, conflict mediation skills, restorative justice facilitation skills, strong interpersonal skills, and sound decision-making and evaluative skills.
Demonstrated ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with colleagues and students and an openness to constructive feedback about performance as well as processes.
Demonstrated leadership in working successfully with diverse college student populations and engaging in social justice educational strategies. Experience implementing a residential curriculum.
Title IX Investigation Certification.
Appointment Information
This is a 100% full-time Academic Professional position, appointed on a 12-month basis. The expected start date is as soon as possible after 2/3/2025. The budgeted salary range for the position is $60,000 to $62,000. Salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience, while also considering internal equity.
