Position Description

The University of Chicagos Institute for Climate and Sustainable Growth invites applications for Senior Instructional Professor (open rank) to manage the new suite of undergraduate and masters degree programs based on the Institutes Chicago Curriculum on Climate and Sustainable Growth. Appointment will be made in an appropriate primary department or school. The selected candidate will be appointed as Assistant Senior Instructional Professor, Associate Senior Instructional Professor, or Senior Instructional Professor, with rank determined by qualifications. Depending on the rank, the appointment will be for a term of up to five years, renewable with the possibility for promotion. This is a career-track position with competitive salary and benefits. The appointment has an expected start date on or around July 1, 2025.

The primary responsibility of this position involves the management of a pioneering new suite of undergraduate and masters degree programs overseen by the Institutes Chicago Curriculum on Climate and Sustainable Growth. This position will provide broad oversight over the Curriculums evolution and refinement and course design; update the content of the courses, having periodic discussions with other departments about their needs; supervise other instructors who teach in the program; and recruit and supervise professional staff, such as student and career advisors. Additional duties include ensuring courses fit together through collaboration with, and oversight of, instructors teaching service courses; teaching in the curriculum; supervising course instruction, and assisting with course placement.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of a PhD, by the appointment start date, in Economics, Climate Science, Environmental Science, Public Policy, or a closely related field
  • Experience in management of academic programs, personnel, and budgets

Preferred Qualifications

  • At least two years of teaching experience as the instructor of record in a range of undergraduate courses in fields in energy, climate change, public policy, political science, or related fields.
  • Experience or academic background in energy and climate change issues.
