Accountabilities:

The Night Transportation Supervisor will supervise and coordinate essential transportation services provided by Colgate University and a team of drivers.
This position will report to the Director of Transportation and collaborate closely with other Transportation management team members. Areas of responsibility include scheduling, routing, and event coordination to provide safe, efficient, high-quality transportation services to the University community.
This position will be expected to ensure optimal vehicle operations safety and driver accountability. Duties will include coordinating coverage and filling shifts due to absences. Other responsibilities include compiling ridership data and responding to customer requests.


Responsibilities include:


  • With a focus on exceptional customer service, using innovation and a solution-oriented approach, provides supervision and coordination of days, evenings, weekends, and overnight transportation services offered by Colgate University drivers in the Transportation Department.

  • Collaborates with the Director of Transportation and other transportation supervisors on all Transportation and logistical areas, including but not limited to scheduling, routing, and event coordination, to provide safe, efficient, and high-quality transportation services to the University community.

  • Supervise drivers for their particular shifts (as few as one up to 10 or more) as assigned.

  • Manage schedules for daytime, evening, overnight, and weekend driver shifts as necessary to ensure continuity of campus transportation services.

  • Required to work, coordinate, and supervise transportation staffing for and during events.

  • To ensure consistency and operational efficiency, the supervisor carries out administrative functions, including performance management, documenting hours worked, approving payroll, and compiling ridership data.

  • Responsible for coordinating coverage and filling shifts due to absences during daytime, evening, overnight, and weekend schedules.

  • Oversight for the daily and preventive maintenance, cleaning, and fueling of fleet vehicles.

  • Conduct regular vehicle inspections under applicable regulations and University policies.

  • Report and maintain a log of incidents/problems through appropriate procedures established by the department; conduct root cause analyses to address and prevent future issues proactively.

  • Fuel vehicles following University standards.

  • Operate vehicle communication systems within the guidelines of University policies.

  • Manage the programming of routes in GPS tracking and map systems.

  • Other job related duties as assigned.

Professional Experience/ Qualifications:



  • Ability to maintain a valid NYS driver's license. A Valid Class C - CDL with a P endorsement.

  • Experience with vehicle communication, video, GPS, and routing systems.

  • Experience with managing staff.

  • Experience driving passenger vehicles with a CDL requirement.

  • Primary computer and administrative skills.

  • Upon hire, candidates must submit to drug screening.

  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.

  • Ability to work daytime, evenings, and weekends, with additional hours during events.




As a designated "essential employee," must remain on duty beyond normal shift or report to duty without advance notice; must be able to work any time of day, day of the week, and holiday. Ability to work a rotating schedule.
Education:

An Associate's degree or equivalent experience is required.





Certifications:

A current valid driver's license, in accordance with the University's Driver Safety and Motor Vehicle Use Policy is required.


Physical Requirements:

Must be able to comply with NYS DMV CDL requirements.
