About the Department
This position is situated within the Section of General Internal Medicine within the Department of Medicine at University of Chicago. Faculty within General Internal are recognized as national leaders in the areas of medical ethics, health economics and policy, health services and outcomes research. The Volerman Team is focused on reducing inequities in health, education, and the workforce.
Job Summary
The Research Project Coordinator will work closely with a physician-led team of investigators and educators (Drs. Elizabeth Tung and Anna Volerman) to carry out a grant-funded project focused on youth violence. This project aims to implement and evaluate a youth violence prevention intervention that includes community health advocacy and legal aid. The Research Project Coordinator will be supervised by the program manager and investigators.
Responsibilities
Under direction, coordinate and oversee execution of project and perform complex research related duties and tasks.
Manage the day-to-day activities and the overall workflow of project.
Responsible for having a working knowledge and awareness of the overall project and all components.
Perform literature searches and contribute to drafting presentations, articles, reports, and manuscripts.
Manage Institutional Review Board processes.
Provide training and oversight to research support personnel, students, and volunteers.
Build data collection instruments and databases.
Provide support to the investigators and research team by recruiting subjects, designing surveys, planning and conducting individual and focus group interviews, and collecting and analyzing some qualitative and quantitative data, as necessary.
Present research findings at staff meetings, seminars, and scientific conferences.
Plan and facilitate team meetings and webinars.
Work independently and within teams, including both in the university and with community partners.
Provide technical assistance to collaborators in executing research procedures and in data collection.
Maintain working relationships with collaborative community and research partners.
Maintain secure shared files for off-site and on-site management of research instruments and study documents.
Manage project equipment and supplies.
Oversee budget and purchase of study related materials.
Assist with grant reporting.
Develop and maintain standard operating procedures for project.
Ensure compliance of research activities with institutional, state, and federal regulatory policies, procedures, directives, and mandates.
Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.
Maintains recruiting and scheduling research subjects; assisting with developing or amending study protocols; assisting with developing data collection tools; assisting with building databases; and providing general administrative support. Has general awareness in research techniques or methods, regulatory policies and procedures, and relevant scientific field.
Performs other related work as needed.

Previous leadership/management experience in projects or programs
Relevant research experience, particularly health services and/or community oriented.
Experience working with schools and community organizations.
Technical Skills or Knowledge:
Demonstrated computer literacy and computing skills sufficient for effective use of diverse managerial and administrative computer applications, technical writing, word processing, and spreadsheets.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Power Point.
Working knowledge of database software (REDCap) and quantitative and qualitative data analysis software (SAS, STATA, or R).
