About the Proton Therapy Center at Cincinnati Children's

Cincinnati Children's is at the forefront of developing innovative cancer treatments, and its proton therapy program uses pencil-beam technology, the most advanced form of radiation therapy available today. This technology allows radiation to conform to the tumor while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissues, reducing both short-term side effects and long-term complications-especially critical for pediatric patients. In addition, Cincinnati Children's is the only academic medical center worldwide with a dedicated research gantry for both basic and clinical research, built with a $24 million investment to advance proton therapy science. This vision and investment allows for groundbreaking clinical and translational research, such as the world's first clinical trial of FLASH proton therapy.

UC Health and the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine have formed a key partnership with Cincinnati Children's in the development and operation of the proton therapy center. This collaboration brings together expertise in clinical care, medical education, and research to advance proton therapy for both pediatric and adult cancer patients. The partnership leverages the strengths of each institution, enhancing treatment options and fostering groundbreaking research in proton therapy. Together, they are shaping the future of cancer care through innovative radiation treatments.
