Job Description:

Conducts ongoing research projects and manages research staff.  


Duties:



  • Constructs tests or assists in the construction of tests. Responsible for the design of research studies and availability of supplies and equipment. 

  • Collects various forms of data pertaining to the research project or projects. Conducts and analyzes data. Interprets, draws conclusions, and documents. Prepares first draft of reports to be submitted for publication or to granting agencies. Presents research material to fellow researchers, committees, faculty, and at conferences. 

  • Keeps record of information obtained during research that includes a database of information saved on server and hard files. 

  • Conducts research of the literature. 

  • Independently conducts technical research. Collaborates with other researchers.

  • Assesses work needs of a staff of research assistants and technicians. Responsible for training new lab personnel, ordering and, and delegating tasks, ensuring that all laboratory compliance records are kept, compliance rules followed, and standards met or exceeded. and overseeing lab cleanliness

  • Manages the research laboratory and common equipment. Interacts with PI to ensure funding status is maintained. Prepare supply budget including anticipating staffing needs. Ensure lab goals are met, and makes necessary adjustments. Discusses with Principal Investigator. 

  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.

Required Education: Master's Degree in a Biological Science, Physical Science, Chemistry, or related field, AND:



  • 60 months research specialty experience.


Equivalency Substitution: Will accept a Ph.D. plus 36 months experience as a Postdoctoral Research Fellow. 


Skills:



  • Applicants with experience in biochemical and molecular assays (such as RIA, binding, qPCR and immunoblotting), experience in animal behavioral assays, microscopy, and/or sterile tissue culture are preferred.


Advertised Physical Requirements:




  • Physical:

    • Standing for long periods of time.

    • Manual dexterity.

    • Stooping, bending, reaching, walking, and lifting up to 25 pounds.




  • Environmental:

    • Exposure to blood borne pathogens, carcinogens, and chemicals. 




Department Preferences:



  • 12 months of supervisory experience.
