Job Description:

POSITION PURPOSE

The Production Equipment Supervisor is a leadership and hands-on technical position with the primary responsibilities of, directing activities to minimize production downtime, resolving equipment quality issues, and mitigating safety issues, relating to Production Machinery at the Milford facility. This includes the delegation of daily work as well as managing short-term, long-term and capital projects as assigned by the Engineering Manager. As a fully engaged leader, the Production Equipment Supervisor takes ownership for the execution of the department's performance, strategy and goals, as well as demonstrates BAC's values of Earning Trust, Embracing Responsibility, Showing Courage, and Driving Innovation. This role ensures all technicians are properly trained and performing according to BAC's safety, quality and productivity standards. The Supervisor sets both short-term and long-term objectives for members of their team. Additionally, the role promotes open communication and ensures all necessary information is provided to employees in a timely manner. The purpose for every position at BAC regardless of department or level can be summed up as doing the right thing in the right way.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES


  • Own personal and team safety. Ensures team members observe all safety rules and use the proper safety equipment.

  • Manage projects by organizing vendors, people and resources staying on-budget and on-time.

  • Establish and report out on metrics that support Plant Equipment KPI's.

  • Responsible for the training and development of mechanics and technicians.

  • Recognize and reward team accomplishments, celebrating team and organizational success.

  • Ensure open and clear communication to department employees.

  • Ensure that all critical Production Equipment are fully operational.


  • Minimize and/or eliminate product quality issues stemming from the operation of Production Machinery.

  • Oversee the Preventative Maintenance program.

  • Perform mechanical and electrical troubleshooting, breakdown repair, lubrication, and completes line maintenance changeovers as required.

  • Understand and repair hydraulic and pneumatic systems, power transmission components (e.g. screws, belts, vibrators, gearboxes, chains, sheaves, cylinders, etc.)

  • Repair pumps, compressors, piping systems, etc. as required.

  • Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, equipment drawings, and equipment breakdown data.

  • Trace wiring, diagnose controls, and troubleshoot PLCs / HMIs as required.

  • Schedule and assign planned work to all 3 shifts of Equipment maintenance.


  • Conduct Root Cause Analysis investigations on equipment and systems failures.

  • Complete yearly reviews for team and sets quarterly and annual objectives.

  • Complete detailed accident investigation reports for all accidents in the department.

  • Drive LEAN principles and implement tools for measuring continuous improvement.

  • Conduct and/or oversee both planned and unplanned downtime events, inspections and audits to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant maintenance operations.

  • Supports a culture of innovation through original thinking to improve processes, systems and services.

  • Works with Facility and Grounds Leader to coordinate plant openings, closings, Holiday shutdowns, and weekend work.

  • Prepare RFQ's and RFP's for procurement of plant services, systems and equipment.

  • Prepare Capital Equipment justifications and project plans.

  • Performs other duties as requested, directed, and assigned.

NATURE & SCOPE

This position reports to the Plant Engineering Manager. The Production Equipment Supervisor is a leader on the Maintenance Team and shares responsibility for department goals, objectives and performance. The Supervisor is responsible for leading a team of mechanics and providing hands on technical support when required. Additionally, this role may participate on cross functional and regional teams.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS


  • Bachelor's degree in engineering, or another technical field. May substitute experience in lieu of.

  • Demonstrated supervisory/management skills including leading, delegation, and follow-up.

  • Strong competency with principles of electronics, electric, mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic systems, and power transmission components. This includes PLC's, HMI's and VFD's.

  • Competent in reading blueprints and reference drawings.

  • Strong organization skills including prioritizing to meet customer expectations, smart allocation of resources, and the ability to translate BAC strategy into individual team member actions.

  • Ability to mentor and train technicians. Adjusts coaching style to needs of the individual.

  • Effective written communication including documentation of processes, and the communication of those processes with mechanics. Ability to communicate to co-workers, direct reports, stakeholders, supervisors and vendors with written memos or emails that are professional, concise, technical, and clearly understood.


  • Demonstrated oral communication skills including the ability to communicate professionally with BAC co-workers, direct reports, stakeholders, supervisors and vendors. The ability to share information verbally that is clearly understood and technically accurate.

  • Organizational savvy that leverages contacts and relationships earing trust to achieve team goals.

  • Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and use of consistent root cause methodology.

  • Quickly adopts technology and is competent in the use of BAC software tools, databases, cloud-based applications, CMMS and Office365 products.

  • Strong competency with Microsoft Word, Powerpoint and Excel, including creating work instructions, spreadsheets, updating data sets and generating metrics (e.g. graphs, charts, and trendlines, etc.).

  • Experience in Lean Manufacturing and Continuous Improvement.

  • Familiarity in fabrication techniques such as welding, milling, turning, grinding and general millwright methods.

  • Familiar with all appropriate procedures, policies, and instructions for factory maintenance.

Employee will also be required to bend, stoop, kneel, squat, sit and reach on a regular basis during a normal working shift This position requires frequent lifting up to 50 pounds. Exposures include elevated noise levels associated with a manufacturing environment, fluctuations in temperature ambient conditions as well as intermittent exposure to the weather in and about the yard and dock areas. Occasional weekend work is typical, and availability is expected for any of the three operating shifts.
