Education Programs Manager

Nature of Work: The primary function of the Educator is to implement informal education programs, located both on and off Zoo Miami grounds, for various audiences.

Essential Duties:
  • Deliver educational programs including but not limited to zoo camp, animal fun factory, school programs, tours, outdoor activities, and animal encounters.
  • Speak publicly on various conservation, zoological, biological, and ecological subjects.
  • Present educational programs for audiences of all ages.
  • Assisting in the preparation of programs.
  • Supervise volunteers.
  • Collect data regarding zoo programs.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Education / Experience:

High School Diploma. Enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program is a plus.

License(s) / Certifications:

Current Florida Driver's License in good standing.

Communication Skills:

Ability to read and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals,

technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports and effectively present information and respond to questions from

groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

Computer Skills

Proficiency in MS Office Applications, including MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

General Physical Requirements
  • Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/up to 20 pounds of force frequently,and/ or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Balancing: Maintaining a body equilibrium to prevent falling when walking,standing or crouching on narrow, slippery or erratically moving surfaces.
  • Stooping: Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at waist.
  • Kneeling: Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Crouching: Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

  • Lifting: Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving object horizontally from position-to-position.
  • Fingering: Picking,pinching, typing, or otherwise working primarily with fingers rather than with the whole hand or arm as in handling.
  • Grasping: Applying pressure to an object with the fingers and palm.
  • Talking: Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.
  • Hearing: Perceiving the nature of sounds at normal speaking levels or without correction.
  • Repetitive Motions: Substantial movements (motions) of the wrists,hands and/or fingers.
  • Visual Acuity:
  • The worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; expansive reading;visual inspection involving small defects, small parts and/or operation of machines; using measurement devices; and/or assembly of fabrication of parts at distances close to the eye.
  • The worker is required to have visual acuity to operate motor vehicles or heaving equipment.
