About the Job

This is a very unique opportunity for an individual/team of investors (preferred) to general manage and own via purchase through a Contract for Deed (CD) an iconic restaurant/bar named Hilltop once frequented by Bob Dylan and Willie Nelson located in a rapidly growing northwestern suburb of Hanover, Hennepin County Minnesota. The beloved restaurant/bar once was in full swing for many years under various ownership, always famous for its burgers, biker, baseball and snowmobile club attendees. The Sundance Premier movie Thin Ice featured snippets onsite at the Hilltop. The bar is currently under renovation to meet current city code and will require the new owner to install equipment and upgrade the interior to meet their desired cuisine and dining atmosphere. The new general manager/owner will be responsible for taking the project under their belt to a grand opening and regular operation. One advantage of this establishment is that is has a spacious two bedroom apartment above, if you are new to the town and want to live on-site or have hired hands readily available.

Purpose of the Position

We are seeking experienced passionate business-minded and creative food aficionado(s) to bring this establishment back to life. The community has been waiting years and any word of it opening again is like wildfire. The area has two nearby overwhelmed restaurant / bars that can't keep up with capacity. There is much opportunity to differentiate or just offload the demand. Serious inquiries only that you have the wherewithal to undertake the preparation and launch of this new food business. You will need sufficient cash flow to make the necessary initial equipment and inventory investments, start the operation, pay utilities and CD payments until the restaurant is producing revenue to cover and flourish profitably.

General Manager Duties and Responsibilities

Bar Manager(s) take responsibility for the financial success of the restaurant bar they are in charge of. They have a range of duties, including administrative, leadership and practical marketing and building maintenance tasks. Their main function is to ensure that they serve and run the bar efficiently and that the customer has the best possible experience. They are also responsible for the success and development of their staff. Their main duties and responsibilities include:
  • Design, Consult and Operate Restaurant Bar Start-up including: Menu, equipment, flow, operations, hiring employees
  • Meeting sales and profitability targets
  • Leading, training, motivating and supporting a team of restaurant bar staff by example, pitching in to help with drink mixing or table service when necessary
  • Ensuring that the front-of-house (FOH) is fully staffed, particularly during peak times. In a restaurant, the front of house includes the dining room, bar, host stand, and any other areas where customers interact with staff. FOH staff are responsible for creating a welcoming atmosphere, providing excellent customer service, and ensuring that guests have a positive experience. The FOH roles include:
  • Host/hostess, Wait staff, Bartender, Concierge, and Front desk assistant.
  • Ensuring consistent, high quality beverages are served to customers
  • Dealing with customer feedback and providing adequate solutions to customer complaints
  • Creating a positive work environment for staff and encouraging their career development
  • Monitoring inventory of beverages to ensure adequate stock
  • Overseeing the cleanliness of staff and the physical bar area and paying attention to possible health hazards and regulation violations
  • Communicate and cultivate personnel files, training and career development of employees.
  • Operate ethically building and promoting the Hilltop restaurant bar Brand and ensure no violations of policies and procedures.
  • Dining Menu Development.
  • Achieve restaurant bar targets for all types of Audits including Food Safety Standards.
  • Ensure all employees follow safety, sanitation and security procedures.
  • Meet Deadlines.
  • Prepare daily, weekly and annual planning sales and budget targets and plans.
  • Set individual goals and monitor daily sales targets.
  • Consider pull tab, merchandise and music as draws.
  • Populate restaurant bar calendar with activities to increase interest
  • Balance staffing levels and labor costs to achieve optimal productivity.
  • Implement and execute inventory management.
  • Ensure all equipment is correctly used, clean regularly and well maintained.
  • Ensure the smooth operation of the restaurant bar.
  • Respond and resolve cafe customer complaints ensuring guest satisfaction.

  • Restaurant management: 2 years (Required)
